Details

Yield: 1 10-inch cake
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Bake Time: 1 hour to 1 hour 20 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes

Ingredients

1 cup butter, soft
8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
3 cups granulated sugar
6 eggs
1 Tbsp vanilla extract
3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
1 cup heavy cream

Preparation

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, add your softened butter, room temperature cream cheese, and sugar. Whip together at high speed until your mixture becomes fluffy.

Step 2

Next, into your mixing bowl add eggs one at a time. Mix each one in before adding the next.

Step 3

When eggs are added and mixed in, stop mixing. Into your mixing bowl, add vanilla extract, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and heavy cream. Once all the ingredients are added to the mixing bowl, mix them together thoroughly.

Step 4

Set your prepared batter aside, and heavily grease your baking pan. Be sure to get all aspects of the pan thoroughly greased with cooking spray. Once your pan is greased, immediately add your cake batter to the pan. Spread it evenly.

Step 5

Place your pan into the oven and preheat your oven to 325°F. Bake the cake for 60 to 80 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. When baked, remove from the oven, and allow to cool for a few minutes, before removing from the pan, then allow the cake to cool.

Step 6

When the cake has cooled completely, you may choose to add a topping if desired before serving. Some of these champions may include homemade whipped cream and fresh fruit slices, a glaze of powdered sugar and milk, or simply sprinkle in powdered sugar on the top for decoration. However, you choose to top it, do this once cool, then serve and enjoy.

Notes

This recipe is straightforward, in that you cream together the cream cheese, sugar, and butter before adding anything else. Once creamed, add eggs, and mix well before adding the remaining ingredients. If desired, you can mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate mixing bowl before adding to your batter, however, this extra step is not necessary.

Ingredient Variations

You may choose to switch out some of the ingredients called for in the above recipe, for a variation of the ingredient if desired. Below are a few examples of the three ingredients that may be more likely to be exchanged. These three ingredients include vanilla extract, all-purpose flour, and heavy cream.

Vanilla Extract. Vanilla extract is great if you would like a plain vanilla cake. However, if you would rather you may also substitute vanilla extract for flavorings such as almond extract, or lemon if desired. When we make this recipe, I enjoy substituting lemon extract and lemon juice in place of the vanilla extract called for. Typically, I use 3 tablespoons of lemon juice, and 1 teaspoon of lemon extract. Please see the below recipe variations for amounts to use to replace vanilla extract in this recipe.

All-Purpose Flour. If you wish to make the cake diet appropriate, meaning to satisfy a diet such as gluten-free, you can easily exchange regular all-purpose flour for gluten-free all-purpose flour. You may also wish to exchange all-purpose flour for cake flour. Or if you would rather you can make cake flour easily. Please see the below for details on how to make cake flour.

Heavy Cream. The contents of heavy cream in this recipe can help to increase the fat content. If you’re looking to cut back on the calories and fat in this recipe, one good way to do this is to substitute half of the heavy cream for regular milk.

Cream Cheese Pound Cake

Cream cheese pound cake is delicious because it is super moist and fluffy, unlike any other cake texture that you can make from scratch. This cake is a delicious treat that you will not want to miss out on. See the below for tips on how to make it.

Pound Cake Tips

Key To Success #1 – Add Cream Cheese For A Tender Pound Cake

By adding cream cheese to your cake, it makes for a moister, and tender cake. This recipe is hard to beat if you are looking for the perfect texture of cake made from scratch.

Key To Success #2 – Pick The Perfect Pan + Grease It Well

Typically, when making this pound cake recipe, I like to use a bundt cake pan. The trick with using this type of cake pan, however, is to be sure to grease it very well. No matter what kind of cake pan you choose to use, grease the pan generously before adding your cake batter. It will go a long way towards helping you make the perfect cake.

Key To Success #3 – Bake Low And Slow Starting In A Cold Oven

Another key to making the perfect pound cake is to not preheat your oven. By not preheating your oven, your baking time required may be a bit longer than anticipated. However, the overall quality of your cake will be better. To do this, insert your cake into the oven, then preheat the oven with your cake in it. Set your timer so that you know how long your cake is supposed to bake. Then check on it, if a toothpick inserted comes out clean in the center your cake is done. If not, continue baking a little while longer.

Things to note about this recipe:

The process of making this cake is quite easy. All you do is mix, grease your pan generously then add your dough and bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Then remove from the oven and allow the cake to sit for about 5 to 10 minutes. After it has begun to cool, flip the cake inside the bundt pan upside down and on a plate. Let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes or until it is cool to the touch. Remove the pan from your cake and allow the cake to continue cooling. Add toppings if desired before serving, serve, and enjoy.

How to make cake flour:

If you would like to convert your all-purpose flour to cake flour, you can easily do this without purchasing special cake flour from the store. To make your own cake flour measure out 3 cups of all-purpose flour. Then from that flour that you have measured, remove 6 tablespoons of flour. Then into your flour add 6 tablespoons of cornstarch, this will replace the 6 tablespoons of flour you removed from the mixture. You are going to want to blend this together very well, either in a food processor, or a blender before using. You have now created your own cake flour that you can use however you wish.
