Iced Caramel Latte (Starbucks Copycat)

Making an iced caramel latte doesn’t have to be complicated, in fact, it’s quite easy. With this recipe, you can enjoy a copycat version of Starbucks iced caramel latte without the line or the price tag. 

In order to make this delicious drink, all you need are a few basic ingredients, and a couple of minutes of time to put it all together then you can enjoy the delicious flavor and indulge in your caffeinated beverage. 

We are so excited to show you how to make this easy and delicious recipe that you can enjoy anytime you want. Let’s jump into the ingredients you need in order to make this iced caramel latte. 

Iced Latte Ingredients

Espresso or Strong Brewed Coffee. You can use either brewed espresso or strong brewed coffee to make an iced caramel latte.

Espresso can be purchased at your local grocery store in the coffee section, and simply brewed by mixing it together with hot water in a French press. Or you can make your own strong brewed coffee in your coffee maker but be sure to add extra coffee grounds. 

Milk. Any type of milk can be used for this recipe. We recommend that at least 2% milk is used, or whole milk, but you can use whatever kind of milk is your favorite. 

Caramel syrup. Caramel syrup is used to flavor this drink. You can use your own homemade caramel syrup by making this recipe, or you can use your basic store bought caramel syrup.

Caramel syrup is mixed into the drink to flavor it, and a little bit is drizzled on top of the beverage as well. 

Sugar. Adding sugar to the drink is entirely optional. You can add a teaspoon or two if you want, or it can be skipped completely as the caramel syrup also sweetens the beverage.

Ice. Because this is an iced caramel latte, you are also going to want to include some ice in your ingredient list. You can use whatever type of ice you prefer. 

Whipped Cream. Whipped cream is another optional ingredient, but it can be used to top your caramel iced latte before serving if desired. 

There are also a few kitchen utensils that we recommend you have on hand in order to make this iced latte. They are not required but recommended.

Recommended Equipment:

Heat Safe Cup. We recommend that the caramel syrup is mixed into coffee while it is still somewhat warm and can be dissolved. Because of this, you want to use a heat-safe cup to mix them in. 

Mason Jar or French Press. To get the complete latte feel, you can froth your own milk at home by using a mason jar or French press. This is not required, but it does make your beverage much more authentic. 

Stir Spoon. You will also want to have a spoon or stir stick on hand to mix the drink together after all the ingredients are added. 

How To Make an Iced Caramel Latte

Step 1: Brew Espresso or Strong Coffee

To begin, you will first want to brew the espresso or strong coffee. Since you only need one and a half cups of coffee, you can put in as much ground coffee beans and as you normally would for one cup. This will give you a stronger coffee brew. 

Or, if you have espresso, and a simple French press, you can simply warm water on your stovetop or in the microwave until it is hot. Then add it into the French press with your ground espresso.

Mix it together and then let it rest for a little while before pressing the espresso grounds to the bottom. 

After the coffee or espresso has been brewed, pour it into a heat-safe cup. 

Step 2: Mix in Caramel

Next, into the still warm coffee or espresso, pour in 2 tablespoons of caramel syrup. Mix this thoroughly until the caramel is dissolved in the coffee. 

Step 3: Froth the Milk

Now if desired, pour the milk into a mason jar or into a clean French press. If using a mason jar, pour it in leaving extra space for the milk to expand, secure the lid, then shake vigorously for a few minutes until it begins to foam in the jar and expand. 

If using a French press, pour the milk into the French press leaving space at the top. Pull the plunger up and down just hitting the top of the milk. You will gradually see the milk begin to foam and expand. Once it is foamy you are good to go. 

Step 4: Add the Cream

Now into the serving glass, add ice, and pour in the coffee and caramel mixture. Next, pour in the milk. Top with whipped cream and additional caramel sauce if desired. Then serve right away and enjoy!

Other Tips and Tricks on this iced caramel latte recipe

Espresso (or Very Strong Coffee). You don’t need any kind of fancy machine to make this recipe. You can make an iced caramel latte using espresso, or by using strong brewed coffee.

If you’re using espresso, you want approximately three shots of espresso, or approximately ½ cup of strong brewed coffee. 

Make-Ahead Instructions 

This iced caramel latte recipe can be made in advance if desired. You can completely assemble the coffee, caramel syrup, and milk ahead of time.

Then simply pour it into the serving glass and add ice cubes, when you are ready to enjoy. 

How to Serve

This drink can be enjoyed at any time of the day. It can be enjoyed for your morning coffee, or as a refreshing drink throughout the day. 


If there happen to be any leftovers, they can be stored in the fridge for later. However, if the leftovers have ice in them, we suggest that you remove the ice cubes before saving the leftovers. Store the caramel latte in the fridge in an air-tight container, for up to 5 to 7 days. 

Other Variations

Add Salt or Chocolate

Another fun way to mix things up is to add some sea salt to make a salted caramel latte or a drizzle of chocolate syrup.

Make it a Caramel Frappuccino

You can easily convert this iced caramel latte into a caramel Frappuccino. All you must do is add all the ingredients to a blender and mix it together.

We do recommend that if you are making this drink into a Frappuccino, you add an additional scoop of caramel syrup, to help sweeten it. You may also want to add another shot of espresso or coffee, to help strengthen it against melted ice.

Does an iced caramel latte have caffeine?

Usually, yes, an iced caramel latte does have caffeine. But one of the great things about making this drink at home is that you can use strong brewed decaf coffee so that it does not contain caffeine if this is important to you. 

Can I make this with cold brew coffee?

Yes, you can! However, if you are making this drink with cold brew coffee, you may want to heat it slightly so that the caramel syrup dissolves in the coffee. Especially if your caramel syrup is a bit thick, you may have difficulty getting it to mix into the coffee. 

Can I double the recipe?

Absolutely! You can easily double this recipe. 

Is an Iced Latte the Same as Coffee?

Not quite, there are a few slight differences between an iced latte and an iced coffee. Traditionally the main differences are that iced coffee is made with coffee over ice, while a latte is made with espresso, and frothed milk. 

What Coffee Do I Use?

If you are able to find espresso, we would strongly recommend that you use this when making an iced caramel latte. However, if you do not, you can make strong brewed coffee for the coffee flavor in this drink.
