How to make these bacon, mushroom and swiss burgers

To begin making your own bacon mushroom and Swiss burgers, you will want to begin by mixing your ground beef with your seasonings. After it is mixed together, press your hamburger into patties. When’s pressed into patties, you can preheat your grill if you are using the grill which we highly recommend, then add your burgers to the grill and cook over medium heat until they reach the desired internal temperature.

If you do not have access to a grill, you may also cook your hamburgers in the oven on a cookie sheet, or on your stovetop in a skillet. Our favorite backup option is to cook your hamburgers on the stovetop as cooking them in the oven can make quite a bit of a mess.

While your hamburgers are cooking, you’ll want to get your bacon started cooking. You can grill your bacon as well, or you can cook it on your stovetop or in a griddle. After your bacon has finished cooking, remove it from the burner, and place it onto a paper towel-lined plate to allow the grease to drain.

As your hamburgers and bacon are cooking, it’s time to prepare your mushrooms by washing them and thinly slicing them then add them to a medium-size skillet along with a drizzle of olive oil and your onions if desired and placed over medium heat to cook.

You’ll want to cook your onions until they have begun to caramelize, and your mushrooms until they are soft. Typically, this will take around 8 to 12 minutes to completely cook them. Once cooked, you can drizzle lightly with balsamic vinegar if desired, then set aside.

As your hamburgers come into the homestretch of cooking, you will want to turn the heat down and add your slices of Swiss cheese on top of your burger patties. Allow them to sit for a few moments so that the cheese melts. At the same time, we also highly recommend that you butter the inside of your buns and allow them to toast over the warmed grill as well. This will provide a lovely, toasted texture to your buns.

When your tea is melted, and your buns are toasted, remove them from the burner, and begin assembling your burgers. If desired, you can also make your own sauce for the burgers, or simply use barbecue sauce. Be sure to serve your burgers after they have rested for a moment and while they’re still hot so that you can enjoy the full deliciousness.

That’s it! Let’s get cooking!

Best Mushroom Swiss Burger Recipe

Ingredients

Burger Patties

1 lb ground beef

1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce

½ tsp garlic salt

¾ tsp garlic powder

Burger Toppings

8 slices bacon

8 oz white mushrooms, sliced and washed

1 small onion, sliced (optional)

4 slices Swiss cheese

French fried onions, to taste (optional)

BBQ sauce, to taste (optional)

1 drizzle olive oil

1 small drizzle balsamic vinegar (optional)

2 Tbsp butter, soft

4 buns

Instructions

Step #1. Make Hamburger Patties

Begin by combining your ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, and garlic powder in a mixing bowl. Mix, then form your hamburger into four patties. After your patties are formed, begin preheating your grill.

Step #2. Cook Bacon

While your grill is preheating, cook your bacon by placing it into a skillet, and cook until it reaches your desired level of doneness. Remove from the heat and place it on a paper towel-lined plate.

Step #3. Grill Your Burger

When your grill has preheated, you can go ahead and place your burger patties on your grill over medium to low heat. Allow your burgers to fully cook until they reach your desired internal temperature. For more details and internal temperatures, please download our temperature conversion chart.

Step #4. Make The Caramelized Onions and Sautéed Mushrooms

As your burgers are being grilled, you’ll want to begin caramelizing and sautéing your onions and mushrooms. To do this, take a skillet and place it over medium heat, add a drizzle of olive oil, and then add your mushrooms that have been thinly sliced and washed, along with your onion slices.

Allow to cook for approximately 8 to 12 minutes or until your onions are caramelized and your mushrooms are soft. Add a drizzle of balsamic vinegar and remove it from the heat.

Step #5. Gather the Rest of Your Toppings

As your burgers near your desired internal temperature gather any other ingredients you wish to include as toppings. Take your slices of Swiss cheese, turn your grill off, allow your burger patties to sit over the residual heat, and add your cheese to the patties so that it begins to melt on the burger patties.

Next, take your buns, and brush the inside with butter. Place the buns over the warm burner so that they can toast over the residual heat. Once toasted, remove from the heat.

Step #6 Assemble and Serve

Now that all aspects of your burger are prepared, it’s time to assemble and serve. Assemble your burger by taking your toasted buns, adding your burger patty with melted Swiss cheese, top with your sautéed onion and mushroom mixture, followed by your cooked bacon, and finish off with your desired sauce and any other toppings. Once assembled, serve while warm and enjoy.

Recipe Tips and Tricks

To make this process easier and more streamlined we have a few recommendations for making the above recipe.

Tip 1

We recommend preparing all of your ingredients ahead of time so that they are ready to go as you need each one.

Tip 2

We also recommend that you begin by cooking your bacon so that it has time for the grease to drain off before you’re ready to use it.

We then recommend that you preheat your grill to a medium temperature before placing your hamburgers onto the grill. After your bacon has mostly been cooked, you can go ahead and add your hamburgers to the grill.

After you have added your hamburgers to the grill, we recommend that you begin sautéing your onions and mushrooms together. Once the onions and mushrooms are done, you’ll want to remove them from the heat and set them aside.

Then turn your attention back to the burgers. We recommend turning your burners for the grill off before adding your cheese to melt and toasting your buns. This will prevent your cheese from melting too much and burning your buns.

Please keep in mind that these are our recommendations, and not required. You will find your own groove as you prepare your homemade mushroom bacon Swiss burgers.

Burger Toppings

There are many different toppings you may choose to add to your burgers. This is one of the benefits of making your own homemade burgers.

Because of the type of burger recipe, we recommend including mushrooms, bacon, and Swiss cheese on top of your burger. However, you may also choose to omit some of these ingredients, or include other ingredients such as lettuce, tomato, French fried onions, fresh onions, pickles, and other sauces.

Get creative and adapt this recipe to fit your specific taste preferences.

Best Cheese for Burgers

For the specific recipe, we recommend using Swiss cheese for your burgers. However, you may change out the type of cheese if desired. If you do choose to use Swiss cheese, we recommend using a high-quality cheese, that will also melt well and help pull your overall burger together.

How To Store

Before we jump too far into the details of how to store your mushroom bacon Swiss burger, it is important that we first clarify you will not want to store your assembled burger. Portions of the burger may be stored and saved for later, however, once your burger is assembled, you will want to eat it right away as it will get soggy and not last well.

Fridge Storage. After the individual portions of your burger have been prepared, you may store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. We recommend that they be kept in the fridge for no more than three days. Please note that storing in their fridge individually works well for your mushroom and onion combination, your bacon, as well as your grilled burger patty.

Freezer Storage. After it has been prepared, you may freeze your bacon individually in an airtight container, or sealable freezer bag. You may also freeze your burger patty by itself in an individual storage container, or freezer bag. Please note that you will not want to freeze your sautéed onions and mushrooms.

Side Dishes

There are so many side dishes you can serve with your mushroom bacon Swiss burgers. The most common side dish to serve alongside your burgers it’s of course French fries. Other side dishes you might enjoy include:
