Crispy Grilled Cheese on Sourdough

Sourdough bread makes some of the best grilled cheese sandwiches ever. If you haven’t tried it, you need to.

Sourdough is a good, sturdy bread that has great flavor for grilled cheese, and it doesn’t just flatten out when you stack it with cheese and heat it up, like some of the softer breads do.

Why you’ll love this recipe

We think you’ll love this recipe because it’s delicious, it’s easy to make, and it tastes just like the one you can buy at Starbucks, only it doesn’t cost you six dollars. It’s a win-win.

Recipe Ingredients

To make our copycat Starbucks Grilled Cheese you’ll need sourdough bread, white cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese, and butter.

Ingredient Notes

Though our recipe calls specifically for mozzarella cheese as well as white cheddar cheese, you can literally use any kind of cheese you want to.

We think sourdough bread works best for grilled cheese because it’s a nice substantial bread that toasts up nice and crispy. But if you prefer another kind of bread, that will likely work too.

We recommend using real butter for grilling your sandwich. It gives it the best flavor and provides a nice, golden outcome.

Recipe Tips & Tricks

When making a Starbucks grilled cheese sandwich, here are a few tips and tricks to help give you perfect results every time.

Cheese Selection. Use cheese that is not pre-grated. If you’re wanting to use shredded cheese, then we recommend shredding your own. This will help to avoid the anti-caking agent that is included in pre-shredded cheese.

How to Achieve ooey-gooey. For the best ooey-goey cheese results, we like to use cheese slices. If you’re slicing your own cheese, you’ll want to make them relatively thin so that they can melt with relative ease.

How to Melt Cheese. If you’re having trouble getting your cheese to melt, keep the temperature on medium low and cover the sandwich with a small lid. Flip the sandwich after a minute or two and replace the lid until the cheese is melted through.

Storage & Reheating

Your grilled cheese will be best when eaten fresh. It will taste crispy and cooked to perfection if you eat it straight from the frying pan.

But if you need to store your sandwich for later, you can do so by placing it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

We recommend using dry heat to reheat your grilled cheese. Using a toaster oven or conventional oven are the two best ways.

Reheat at 350F degrees until heated through. Reheating in the microwave will cause your grilled cheese to become soggy.

Additions & Substitutions

If you’re into supreme kinds of sandwiches, you can add whatever toppings sound good to you on your grilled cheese.

We like to use bacon, grilled onions, roasted tomatoes, fried mushrooms and whatever else the mood strikes for us.

You can also do any substitutions you wish for the cheese, bread, or butter. If you’re not a fan of sourdough, you can use whatever kind of bread you like.

And if you don’t have access to mozzarella and white cheddar cheese or it’s not your favorite, any kind of cheese will likely work. Have fun being creative.
