Garden Side Salad

Chick-fil-A’s side salad is a lovely garden salad that is made with fresh greens, cheese, as well as a few additional toppings. Their garden salad is very light and makes you think of springtime. Let’s turn our attention to what ingredients are needed to make this salad at home.

Description

Greens. Chick-fil-A side salad is made using a variety of greens. If you wish to make your homemade salad very similar to the restaurant, you will want to include Romaine lettuce, green cabbage, red leaf lettuce, as well as green leaf lettuce. This lettuce combination is mixed into a lovely springy bed of lettuce to form the basis of your salad.

Vegetables. Although there are a few toppings included in Chick-fil-A side salad, some of the vegetables that are included consist of grape tomatoes, and red bell peppers. When you are making the salad at home, adding things such as avocados, or carrots makes a delicious salad.

Cheese. There are two types of cheese served on Chick-fil-A’s side salad. Chick-fil-A features Monterey Jack Cheddar Cheese as well as Cheddar cheese. These cheeses are shredded and sprinkled throughout the salad. Although these cheeses are great and taste delicious in the salad if you wish you could add additional cheeses such as Coby Jack, or even blue cheese.

Topping. There are no exact toppings that come on Chick-fil-A’s side salad. When you make it at home, you can add as many toppings as you wish. Some great additions include nuts or sunflower seeds. You could also try adding additional vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, or cucumbers.

Dressing. Chick-fil-A side salad is not served with any specific dressing directly on the salad. You can add whatever type of dressing you wish. The same is true when you make your copycat Chick-fil-A side salad at home. You can easily make your own dressing or add any dressing of your choosing to the top of it before serving and enjoying the salad.

Notes

Crispy Red Bell Peppers From Scratch

I often have a very difficult time finding the crispy red bell peppers in a store near me. So, I have ended up making them on my own. To do this, you will need 2 red bell peppers. ½ cup all-purpose flour, ½ teaspoon baking powder, ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon garlic powder, a pinch of paprika, a pinch of black pepper, ½ cup milk, and one medium egg, along with oil for frying.

Bring your oil to 360°F. While your oil is heating, chop the red bell peppers. Then in a mixing bowl, combine your dry ingredients. In a separate mixing bowl, combine your wet ingredients.  Dip your peppers first into the dry ingredients, then into the wet ingredients, before dipping a final time into the dry. Drop carefully into your hot oil and cook until they begin to turn golden brown.

Keep a close eye on your oil temperature so that it does not reach the smoke point and burst into flames. Remove your cooked peppers from the cooking oil and allow the grease to drain into a paper towel.

Buttermilk Dill Ranch Dressing From Scratch

It is fun to make your own dressing from scratch. A delicious recipe that I often enjoy is made by combining ½ cup sour cream, ¼ cup buttermilk, ½ teaspoon lemon juice, ½ teaspoon dried chives, ¾ teaspoon dried dill, ½ teaspoon dried parsley, ¼ teaspoon onion powder, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, and 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper. Whisk all the ingredients together until combined, then pour on top of your salad to enjoy.

Features & Tastes

With Crispy Red Bell Peppers

If you have never tried them, crispy red bell peppers are very similar to French fried onions. They have a delicious crunch, and flavor to them. Sometimes Chick-fil-A will serve their side salad with a packet of crispy bell peppers on the side. Including crispy red bell peppers in your homemade copycat Chick-fil-A side salad adds a delicious crunch to the salad. You can also try adding French fried onions, and nuts for additional crunch if you wish.

Low Carb Chick Fil A Side Salad with Grilled Chicken Nuggets

You can easily adapt this copycat Chick-fil-A side salad recipe into a main meal, to do this simply add strips of chicken nuggets to the top of your salad. Pro Tips

Make-Ahead. If you need to make a salad ahead of time, you can easily do this. Simply combine your greens, tomatoes, and cabbage together. Hold off on adding your cheese, crispy red peppers, and dressing until you are ready to serve. This way, you will have most of your salad prepared ahead of time and can easily add the last few items right before you serve. This will give you the best results for preparing the salad in advance.

Storage. To store your salad, you’ll want to transfer it to an airtight container and place it in the refrigerator. Typically, when your salad is without the dressing, it will usually last for 2 to 3 days if stored in the refrigerator. When it begins to turn brown, you’ll want to toss it. However, once your salad has dressing throughout all of the lettuce, it will only be good for that same day.
