Mango habanero salsa is a great addition simply to enjoy as a salsa or to use on top of fish tacos. Spicy mango salsa is a great alternative to your traditional salsa recipe.

A few things to note about habanero peppers is that like other chili peppers, they are very hot. When you are working with spicy peppers it’s a good idea to wear gloves to protect your hands from the heat.

The spicy flavors of these peppers mean that they are categorized quite high on the Scoville scale. The Scoville scale is a heat scale, rating peppers by a level of mild to extremely spicy. The spice level of habanero chili peppers is quite high on the heat level, making them one of the spicier peppers out there.

If you do not like super spicy things, then you might want to consider substituting habanero peppers with another type of pepper that is a little milder. If you do choose to use habanero peppers make sure to wear gloves when working with the peppers.

Let’s look at the fresh ingredients combined in the perfect mix of this homemade salsa recipe. So that you can try out this tasty salsa recipe for yourself.

Mango-Habanero Salsa Ingredients

Mangoes. Using ripe mangoes for this recipe is a key ingredient. You will want fresh mangoes to be nice and ripe so that they will be juicy and sweet when added to the salsa.

Tomatoes. Tomatoes or an optional ingredient in this specific salsa recipe. Although that might seem kind of odd to you, they are not required to be added, although it is my personal preference to add a few Roma tomatoes to this salsa recipe.

Red Onion. Adding a finely diced red onion to your mango habanero salsa will add additional colors to the beautiful salsa, and also add a little bit more flavor as well as some heat. If you prefer a more mild option, you can substitute red onion for white onion.

Fresh Cilantro. Some fresh cilantro added to your salsa will give it that delightful salsa flavor. You can use dried cilantro if needed, but fresh cilantro will give you the best flavor profile.

Peppers. The most common type of pepper to include in this recipe is a roasted habanero chili pepper. However, if you want another option that is slightly milder yet still kind of spicy, a jalapeno pepper is another option for spicy peppers. Although not quite as spicy as a habanero. Some other options include a red bell pepper, or a mild option would be to use green bell peppers

Fresh Lime Juice. A squeeze of fresh lime juice added to your salsa recipe will add a hint of citrus flavor and help the flavors in general meld together. If you do not have lime juice, you may also use lemon juice if needed.

Salt. A pinch of salt is needed in this recipe to balance out the flavors. You can use your favorite type of salt, no matter if it’s kosher salt, sea salt, Himalayan salt, or real salt.

How to Make Mango Habanero Salsa

Roasting the habanero pepper is entirely optional. If you have a gas stove and wish to roast it over the burner you can absolutely do this for a few minutes turning it occasionally with a pair of tongs.

Or you can roast it in the oven by placing it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. This is a good way to help your habanero chi meld in flavor. Or you can simply leave the habanero peppers raw and add them to your salsa.

To make the salsa, you will first want to wash all of the fruits and vegetables you are adding into the salsa. Then peel and dice them on a cutting board as needed.

Combine in a large bowl combine your diced mangoes, diced tomatoes, diced onion, and fresh cilantro. Add in the remaining ingredients of lime juice and salt. Toss to combine.

Then wearing kitchen gloves, take your habanero peppers cut them open, and remove the seeds. Then dice the habanero pepper very fine. Add a very small amount of the habanero pepper to your salsa, then taste the salsa. Add more habanero pepper as desired until the salsa reaches your desired level of spice.

Make sure to thoroughly stir the habanero salsa thoroughly before serving. After all of the ingredients have been added to your mango habanero salsa, it is ready to serve and enjoy.

You can serve your mango habanero salsa along with your favorite tortilla chips and enjoy your delicious homemade chunky salsa.

How to Store Leftover Salsa

At room temperature. The mango habanero salsa is going to be best stored at room temperature for no more than two hours before it goes bad. This applies when the room temperature between 40°F in 90°F. When the room temperature is 90°F or above the salsa should be left at room temperature for no more than one hour before it goes bad.

In the fridge. For longer storage your leftover salsa should be transferred to an airtight container, then stored in the fridge for up to 3 to 4 days.

Variations of Fresh Mango Salsa

Milder Salsa

Most of the spice of your spicy mango habanero salsa comes in with how much of the habanero pepper is added, and what type of pepper you choose to use. For a milder version, you will want to add very little habanero pepper to the salsa, or completely replace a habanero pepper with a green bell pepper.

Hot Salsa

If you enjoy the pain of spicy foods, then you can add as much habanero pepper as desired to the salsa recipe. You can even add in some jalapeño pepper as well for additional spice.

Smooth Salsa

Rather than making chunky salsa, where you cut up all of the ingredients by hand, you can also use a food processor to make smooth salsa.

To do this you don’t want to add all of your cut and washed vegetables except for the habanero pepper into the food processor and blend it until smooth.

Then add a little bit of the spicy pepper until the salsa fridge is your desired level of heat. Making salsa in the food processor is an easy mango habanero salsa version for sure.

Pineapple Mango Habanero Salsa

Another delicious way to enjoy this salsa recipe is to add fresh chopped pineapple pieced into the salsa. This will give you even more delicious flavor.

Peach Mango Habanero Salsa

Still, another way to enjoy another version of this salsa recipe is to add fresh peaches to the salsa mixture. The peaches will also give you an added flavor profile to enjoy in the salsa.
