You might notice that some flavors of coffee creamers sound very appetizing, especially for hot chocolate. Hot chocolate is typically made using cocoa powder, sugar, and either hot water, heavy cream, or whole milk.

If you are wanting to use coffee creamer to make hot chocolate, it can be done. You would use coffee creamer in place of milk or cut it with part milk and part coffee creamer, depending on how strong you want the flavor to be.

You will also likely want to skip the sugar, or significantly decrease the amount of sweetener added to the drink because of the creamer’s sweetness it will add to your drink.

Often, substituting creamer for milk in your hot chocolate, is an excellent choice, because it makes a tasty hot chocolate you can enjoy.

Coffee creamer comes in many different flavors, or flavor combinations. Coffee creamer is a liquid product made from a milk derivative.

How to use Coffee Creamer in Hot Chocolate

How exactly do you make a delicious cup of hot cocoa using coffee creamer? Basically, you will want to use the coffee creamer, as a replacement for warm milk, which you would usually use to make creamy hot chocolate.

You can use flavored coffee creamer to replace all of the milk that your recipe calls for, or you can add one part coffee creamer, and still keep one part milk for your cup of hot chocolate.

Adding all coffee creamer and no milk will give you the extra flavor of whatever flavor of coffee creamer you use. Feel free to add as much or as little coffee creamer to your hot chocolate as you desire to make a delicious hot chocolate.

Keep in mind, you can use coffee creamer both when using a powdered hot chocolate mix, and when making your own homemade hot chocolate.

Simple Hot Cocoa Mix

Now, let’s specifically look at how you can make your own homemade coffee creamer, and how you can easily make your own hot cocoa mix that can be added to your desired liquid, followed by our delicious hot chocolate recipe made with coffee creamer.

Homemade Coffee Creamers

Did you know that you can easily make your own homemade coffee creamers? This way you can use your desired type of milk, sweeten it, and add your desired flavor extract. It’s not difficult at all. The ingredients you will need are as follows:

Milk. We recommend using whole milk, but you can use any type of milk you prefer.

Sweetened condensed milk. You also need a 14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk.

Flavor extract. You can choose to use your desired flavored extract. You can use vanilla extract, peppermint extract, cake batter extract, or any other flavor that you enjoy.

To make your homemade coffee creamer, you’ll want to combine all these ingredients in a large jar, or container.

We recommend using 6 to 7 cups of milk, for 14 ounces of sweetened condensed milk. You can then add 2 to 3 teaspoons of your desired flavored extract, or until the creamer is flavored as you wish.

Mix thoroughly to combine, then store in the fridge in the airtight container until you’re ready to use it.

Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix

You can also easily create your own hot cocoa mix. This is a powdered mix that can be combined with hot milk, hot water, or warm creamer.

Cocoa Powder. Cocoa powder is essential in this recipe. You can use regular cocoa powder, or Dutch cocoa powder, for extra dark chocolate.

Powdered Sugar. We also recommend that you use powdered sugar, or confectioners’ sugar, rather than regular granulated sugar to sweeten the powdered hot cocoa mix.

Powdered Milk. Powdered milk is included in the hot cocoa mix, as a milk alternative.

Another substitute for this would be to use instant dry milk, or powdered coffee creamer. If you choose to use powdered coffee creamer, make sure to choose a flavor that will go well in your hot chocolate mix.

To make your homemade hot chocolate mix, combine powdered milk, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, powdered coffee creamer, and vanilla powder in a large mixing bowl.

Whisk thoroughly to combine.

Once combined, store in an airtight container or seal in a mason jar with a lid. Store in a dry location, for up to six months.

Hot Chocolate Recipe with Coffee Creamer

Now, let’s turn our attention to the regular hot chocolate recipe made with coffee creamer. This is a simple recipe, made with liquid creamer, and is intended to be enjoyed right away.

Simple Ingredients

Cocoa Powder. Cocoa powder is used to give you a delicious chocolate flavor. Unsweetened cocoa powder or you can use Dutch cocoa powder for a darker chocolate flavor.

Sugar. We recommend using granulated sugar to sweeten your hot chocolate, although you can use other types of sweeteners if you prefer. This recipe includes less granulated sugar than is normal because the coffee creamer contains sweeteners as well.

Coffee Creamer and/or Milk. You can use your desired flavor of coffee creamer to make hot chocolate. Make sure to choose a flavor that you enjoy, and that will complement the chocolate flavor of your hot chocolate.

You can use our coffee creamer, or you can substitute one part coffee creamer, with one part milk if you prefer. If you are using milk, we recommend using whole milk or 2% milk for the creamiest flavor.

How to Make Hot Chocolate with Coffee Creamer

To make homemade hot chocolate with coffee creamer, start by adding the cocoa powder to a small saucepan.

Add the granulated sugar and whisk until combined.

Next, add the coffee creamer, and turn the burner to medium-low heat.

Continue whisking over medium-low heat, just until the mixture begins to steam. This means that it is warm enough. Remove it from the burner right away, so that it doesn’t burn.

Pour into your serving glass, and top with whipped cream if desired. Serve right away and enjoy!

Room Temperature. Because hot chocolate is made with dairy products, it should not be left at room temperature any longer than two hours before it goes bad.

In the Fridge. The best way to store leftover hot chocolate is to transfer it to an airtight container and place it in the fridge for up to 3 to 4 days.

Because it is made using dairy products, it should not be left at room temperature for very long. It also does not last in the fridge very long.

The dairy products in your hot chocolate run the risk of growing unwanted bacteria and causing health risks if consumed after it has gone bad.

Substitutes and Variations

Espresso Powder. You can try adding a bit of espresso powder, or instant coffee powder into the hot chocolate, to give it a slight coffee or cappuccino flavor. This is a great substitute option for all you coffee lovers.

Frozen Hot Chocolate. Another variation of your hot chocolate made with coffee creamer is to use ice cream, to replace part of the coffee creamer mixture. This makes a delicious frozen hot chocolate, which is amazing.

Iced Hot Chocolate. Another variation of hot chocolate made with coffee creamer is to serve your hot chocolate with coffee creamer over ice.
