Now, let’s look at what you will need to make these delicious breakfast sandwiches from scratch.

For The Breakfast Sandwiches:

Making your own breakfast sandwiches is a great option because you can make them in advance, and you can also adapt them to fit your specific taste preferences. Plus, there’s nothing like a fresh breakfast sandwich to get your morning going.

What Ingredients will I need for this Easy Breakfast Bagel Sandwich?

We have a few basic suggested ingredients to include when making your breakfast sandwich. However, please note that you may add or subtract any ingredients to the list below in order to adapt the sandwich to fit your specific taste preferences.

Ingredient List

Bagels. The great thing about making your own sandwiches from scratch is that you get to choose which kind of bagels you prefer. Plain bagels are always a good choice, and you can enjoy them with anything.

Other good options include everything bagel, asiago cheese bagels, and sesame bagels. Of course, feel free to get creative and use your favorite flavor of bagel for your sandwich.

Eggs. We would recommend using approximately one to two eggs per sandwich. The great thing about making them yourself is that you can decide how you like your eggs cooked.

You can get creative and scramble your eggs, or simply cook your eggs sunny side up, whatever your preference, feel free to prepare your eggs in such a way.

Cheese. When selecting your cheese for your breakfast sandwich, we recommend using a type of melty cheese.

Our preference is to use cheese such as American singles for breakfast sandwiches, however, any kind of cheese, as long as it melts well will work out for your breakfast sandwich.

Sausage. There are many different kinds of sausage you can choose to include on your breakfast sandwich.

Your options can range from sausage patties to sausage links, two links that are sliced, whichever you like best you can choose to use. Our preference is to use pork sausage and make our own patties.

Sauce. Adding sauce to your breakfast sandwich is optional. While some people enjoy having sauce on their sandwiches, others prefer their sandwiches to be plain.

If you are adding sauce, you can mix up your own favorite sauce, or simply include mayonnaise, Chick-fil-A sauce, mustard, or ketchup. Again, the sauce is optional and can be added as you prefer.

Butter. We enjoy cooking our eggs with butter to help enhance the flavor. This ingredient is optional.

How to Make Sausage, Egg and Cheese Breakfast Bagels:

Now it’s time to make your breakfast sandwich, so let’s begin by preparing our individual components of sausage, egg, and cheese to assemble into our bagel breakfast sandwich.

Preparation

Begin by preparing your sausage. We recommend using pork sausage that has been hand-pressed into patties. Then, take your frypan, heat it over medium-low heat and add your patties. Cook your pork until it has reached your desired internal temperature. (If you would like details on the best cooking temperatures for different types of meat, be sure to sign up for our emails and download our free temperature conversion chart for the details.)

While your sausage is cooking, take your eggs, heat your pan over medium-low heat, and cook your eggs until they are done to your liking.

As your sausage and eggs begin to get done, toast your bagel, and if desired brush the insides of your bagel with butter. Assemble the bagel by adding your sausage patty, a slice of melty cheese, top with your eggs, add any sauce if desired, then close your bagel. Serve right away while your egg and sausage are still warm, and the heat from both melt your cheese. Enjoy!

Serving Suggestions

To store a breakfast sandwich, you will want to prepare it without any sauce included. Then, wrap it securely in plastic wrap, and place it into a storage bag that seals, or an airtight container.

Sausage, Egg & Cheese Bagel Pizzas

You can also prepare your bagel sandwich, not as a sandwich but as a breakfast pizza and a bagel if desired. To do this, you can use the same ingredient, only instead of preparing your sausage in a patty, you’ll just want to cook your ground sausage and sprinkle it on top of a bagel that is topped with eggs, and melt your cheese on top.

Bagel Breakfast Casserole with Sausage, Egg, and Cheese

Another way you can prepare the same ingredients is to make it into a casserole. To do this, you will want to cut your bagel into small bite-sized pieces, top with raw eggs, sprinkle with sausage and cheese and bake until it’s done. This makes more of a breakfast casserole.

FAQs

Do these bagel sandwiches freeze well?

Although you can freeze bagels sandwiches, they are best enjoyed fresh. If you desire to freeze them, you will want to secure them in freezer storage bags, or wrapped in plastic wrap, then placed in an airtight storage container before freezing. For best results, they are best enjoyed fresh.

Can these be made in advance?

Although the breakfast sandwiches can be made in advance, we recommend making them fresh for the best taste and overall texture. Sometimes the bagels tend to dry out if made and assembled in advance.

If you really want to make it in advance, we recommend preparing your sausage and eggs, then storing them in the refrigerator until ready to use, then pulling them out and assembling your bagel sandwich, wrap them in aluminum foil, and warm in the oven before serving.

Can these breakfast bagels be prepped ahead of time?

The best way to prepare breakfast bagels ahead of time is to fully cook your sausage and eggs in advance, and store them in the refrigerator until you’re ready to assemble.

When you are ready to enjoy your bagel, simply assemble your bagel, wrap the sandwiches in aluminum foil, place it in the oven at 350°F, for approximately 10 to 15 minutes until warmed through. After it’s warmed, you can serve and enjoy your bagel sandwich.
