The other top reason you are going to love this recipe is that it is super easy to make! All you have to do is assemble it and bake it, your ingredients are already made. Let’s take a look now at some ingredients you will need in order to make this tasty breakfast recipe.

Ingredients You’ll Need

In order to make this recipe, you will need the following ingredients:

One loaf of bread (you will need at least 16 slices of bread)
Butter
Cinnamon
Brown sugar
Eggs
Milk
Heavy cream
Vanilla extract
Powdered sugar

Ingredient Notes

Bread. It does not matter what kind of bread you use as long as it is a soft loaf and can stick together easily. When I make this, I typically use the store brand loaf which is the most cost-effective.

Butter. It works really well to have butter that is soft and moldable, but not melted. However, if your butter is melted, that will also work. If your butter is too solid, it will not work at all, and you will end up ripping your slices of bread.

Brown Sugar. Using brown sugar works best for this recipe. You can also use granulated sugar mixed with molasses. By including brown sugar, it gives you the nice caramelized texture that makes your French toast cinnamon swirl so much better.

How to make Cinnamon Swirl French Toast

The process of making a glazed French toast cinnamon swirl is quite simple. To prepare this delicious breakfast, simply follow the steps outlined below.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1: Remove The Crust

Begin by taking each slice of bread and cutting off the crust. Be careful to stay as close to the edge as you can.

Step 2: Pinch Bread

Next, take your bread slices with the crust removed and lay them out in a row of four slices. Pinch the edges between the four so that they form one long piece of bread.

Step 3: Butter, Cinnamon And Sugar

Once your pieces of bread are pinched together, take your butter. Be sure that it is soft enough to spread easily. Liberally cover the top of each section of bread. Then, take brown sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over the top. Smooth it out with your hand to be sure that all of the bread is covered.

Step 4: Roll It

Now that you have your sections of bread covered, take a pizza cutter and cut each section of bread and cut in half the long way. Then, take each section of bread and roll one into the next, so that you end up with one large roll of bread. Place your roll into a six or eight-inch cake pan. If you have a pan where the edges detach from the bottom, like a spring-form pan, this will work best. Otherwise, a regular cake pan will work, just be sure to grease it very well.

Step 5: Prepare Eggs

In a mixing bowl, combine eggs, cream, milk, and vanilla. Whisk until ingredients are combined. Pour over the top of your bread roll. You may have to pour a portion of the egg mixture and allow it to seep in before adding the remaining eggs.

Step 6: Bake

Now your French toast cinnamon swirl is ready to bake. Preheat your oven to 400°F and bake for 30 minutes. Check on it to see if it looks done yet or not. If it does not appear to be done, increase your temperature to 425°F and bake for an additional 10-20 minutes. Remove from oven.

Step 7: Cinnamon Roll Glaze

There are several different kinds of glaze you can top this dish with. I typically use a basic glaze made by combining powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Simply mix this together and drizzle on top of your dish that is fresh out of the oven. Serve immediately and enjoy!

There are several other kinds of frosting you can choose to use to top your dish. One other common favorite is an easy cream cheese frosting. You can make this by mixing 4 Tbsp soft butter, 4 oz cream cheese, 1 cup powdered sugar ¼ cup milk, and 1 tsp vanilla. Mix until frosting is smooth then add to your dish, serve and enjoy.

Serves

This recipe serves six to eight people. The good and bad thing is that it is just so good, people are going to want to have seconds if there is enough leftover!

Time

The total baking time takes about 40 minutes. Please note that this time can vary, depending on your oven and your altitude. Please adjust the time if needed.

Preparation

The preparation for this dish is quite simple. However, if you are struggling as you prepare this dish, an alternative idea to make one large swirl is to make multiple individual rolls. To do this, each of your eight sections would make their own small roll, simply place them in the pan near each other, so that they are touching, before you cover them with your egg mixture. The rest of your steps will remain the same.

Recipe Notes and Tips

A few tips and tricks to help the making of this dish go smoothly are included here to help you make a delicious breakfast the first time around.

Pan. The type of pan you use to make this will impact the presentation of your breakfast. If you wish for it to be elegant in appearance, I recommend using a springform pan, or something where you can detach the sides from the bottom. You may also use a normal cake pan, simply be sure to grease the edges and bottom of your pan very well as the eggs will likely stick to your pan.

Cooking. If you are cooking your dish and it just does not seem to be getting done, feel free to turn the temperature of your oven up. However, if you choose to do this, keep an eye on your breakfast so that it does not overcook. You could also try covering your dish in foil so that the top does not get overbaked, and your insides are still undercooked. I have found that the top will turn a lovely caramel color and puff way up when it is done. If it looks like raw eggs on top, keep baking.

Serve. Be sure to remove it from your oven once it is done, and cover with your glaze then serve immediately. This dish is best while it is still warm.

Storage. If there happen to be any leftovers, you may store your glazed French toast cinnamon swirl in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.

Reheating. If you happen to have leftovers, you may reheat this dish using your oven or microwave. If you are microwaving it should only take a minute or two until it is warm. If you use your oven, I recommend turning your temperature to 350°F and only leaving it in there for 10-15 minutes, just until it is warmed through. Keep in mind that re-heating your dish will cause your glaze to melt, so be sure to have additional on hand if you wish to top it off again.
