Now that you know just how great these homemade Uncrustable sandwiches are, let’s take a look at what all you will need in order to make these easily on your own. There are just a few ingredients that you will need, depending upon what you want the sandwiches to be filled with.

Keep in mind, that there are many different filling options, of which we will go into more later. For this recipe, our main focus is grilled cheese, however, there are many other options as well. Now, turning our attention to the ingredients you will need to make these delicious sandwiches. To make these, you will need the following ingredients.

Grilled Cheese Uncrustables ingredients

Bread. To start off with, you will need bread, two slices per sandwich to make your own homemade Uncrustables. The type of bread is up to you, we enjoy using a loaf of plain white bread, however other kinds of bread may be used as well, such as whole wheat, or any other favorite.

Sandwich Fixings. There are all kinds of sandwich fillings you can use. The most common types include cheese, ham and cheese, as well as peanut butter and jelly. However, since you are making these sandwiches homemade, you are not limited to these fillings. Use your imagination and make your favorite types of sandwiches.

Perhaps you want to mix ham and cheese together and create some sandwich roll-ups, or you might want to stick with the basic cheese. Whatever you are in the mood for, be sure to gather your favorite sandwich fillings. To make the classic grilled cheese Uncrustables, you will want to gather your favorite kind of melted cheese, such as cheddar, with the option of adding ham sliced lunch meat.

Butter. Using soft butter will help your Uncrustables get that delicious grilled cheese texture on the outside. You will want to spread soft butter on the outside of your sandwiches, before air frying, or heating the sandwiches on your stovetop.

A Circle Cutter. To cut your sandwiches into circle shapes, there are all kinds of basic, everyday kitchen utensils that you can use. There are also specific Uncrustable cutters you can buy, that will shape your sandwich, and smash the edges together at the same time. However, these are not necessary, as many items you have lying around the house will work well. Simply look in your cupboard, for a cup, bowl, or Mason jar with a large mouth lid to find a good circle shape to cut out your sandwiches.

A Fork. Our favorite utensil to help seal uncrossable sandwiches is to use a fork. Be sure to pull out a normal dinner fork, to help you seal around the edges.

To Make Your Own Grilled Cheese Uncrustables

There are a few basic steps you can take to make your own grilled cheese Uncrustables sandwich. Below are the simple steps you can follow for a brief overview of how to make these easy and delicious sandwiches.

Cut your bread

Cut your bread shape. To do this, you can find a round shape or even square shape that is lying around your house. If you have a cookie-cutter, this works great, otherwise, you can use items such as an upside-down cup, or a wide mouth of a mason jar. Use your individual slice of bread, and cut your shape out of it so that the crust is removed. Repeat this process with each slice of bread you are wanting to use.

Stuff your sandwiches

After your slices of bread are cut to shape, fill your sandwiches with cheese, and ham if desired. You will need to cut, or fold your fillings to fit inside of your sandwich.

Close and seal

After your bread has been cut to size, and your sandwich is filled, seal around the edges of the bread by taking your fork, and smashing the edges of the bread together so that they seal. If you do not want to use a fork, you can simply pinch the edges of your bread using your finger tips.

Brush with butter and fry

After your sandwiches are created, spread your soft butter on both sides of your sandwiches, then either place it into the air fryer or fry until golden on the stovetop. Serve while they are warm and enjoy.

How To Get The Circle-shaped Bread Your Uncrustables Have In The Grocery Store

There are a few simple ways you can get that circle shaped bread easily at home when making your Uncrustables, similar to what they have in a grocery store. There are tools you can buy to do this, as well as tools you probably have on hand at home that will do this easily as well.

Method 1: Use a cookie cutter!

One easy kitchen utensil that you may have on hand to easily cut your Uncrustables into a circle shape is to use a circle cookie cutter. Do not have a circle cookie-cutter, you could also try using the opening of a cup, or the mouth of a wide mouth mason jar.

Method 2: Using a circle cuter/Uncrustable cutter

You could also purchase from the store, an Uncrustables cutter, that is specifically designed for this purpose. They come in several different shapes and are very similar to a cookie-cutter. The main difference between a cookie-cutter, and an Uncrustable cutter is that this cutter not only cuts the crust off but also seals the bread at the same time. Therefore, if you are using an Uncrustable cutter, you want to assemble your sandwich fully before cutting the shape

Uncrustables Peanut Butter & Grape Jelly Sandwich

Uncrustable sandwiches that are filled with peanut butter and grape, or strawberry jelly, are another all-time favorite crustless sandwich. To make this version of the sandwich, simply cut your bread to shape, then add peanut butter and jelly as you’re filling for the sandwich before adding the top layer of bread and pinching closed. For peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, you can skip the baking portion, and serve right after they are assembled.

Smucker’s Uncrustables Frozen Uncured Ham & Cheddar Roll-Ups

Smuckers also carries an Uncrustable that is filled with ham and cheddar cheese then rolled up. You can easily make a copycat version of this sandwich as well. To make these at home, simply cut the crust off your bread, leaving it in a square form, then fill with ham and cheese before cutting your slices of bread in half, and rolling them on top of each other. This allows you to easily make a ham and cheese roll-up to enjoy at home.

BBQ Cheese Uncrustables

Another favorite is the BBQ cheese Uncrustable sandwich. To make this sandwich, you will prepare it as instructed above, only instead of the ham, include approximately 4 tablespoons total of barbecue sauce divided amongst each sandwich. You will also want to use American, or cheddar cheese for the sandwich. Otherwise, prepare as instructed above, using barbecue sauce, paired with your favorite cheese.

Air Fryer Uncrustables

When you want your Uncrustable sandwich warmed up, and quick and easy way to do this is to use your air fryer. Below are some instructions on how to air fry Uncrustable sandwiches.

How To Air Fry Uncrustables

Start off by cutting your bread, and filling it with your desired feelings. Then pinch the edge of your Uncrustable sandwich together so that it holds. Be sure to butter both sides of your sandwich with soft butter. After your sandwich has been completely prepared, heat your air fryer to approximately 375°F, place your sandwiches into the air fryer basket, and heat for three minutes on each side, or until they begin to turn a golden brown color. Serve while hot and enjoy.

What if I want to make air fryer-style Uncrustables but I don’t have an air fryer?

You can easily make an air fryer style of Uncrustables using your oven, or simply using a skillet on your stovetop. Heat Uncrustables in your oven, preheat it to 375°F, and cook on each side for approximately 3 to 5 minutes or until they begin to turn golden brown. You could also try using your broil function on your oven if you use a low broil. Keep a close eye on your sandwiches as they tend to cook very quickly.

To make air fryer style Uncrustable on your stovetop, and simply place a skillet over medium-low heat and allow it to warm. Place your buttered Uncrustable sandwiches into the skillet and cook each side of your sandwich until it begins to turn a light golden brown. Serve well hot and enjoy.

Smucker’s Uncrustables Microwaveable Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Of course, there is always the option to microwave your grilled cheese sandwich if you wish. Your homemade grilled cheese Uncrustables may be microwaved for approximately one minute, or just until the sandwich is warmed through. This however will not get you the crunchy outside of your sandwich that you will achieve by using an air fryer, oven, or stovetop. Therefore, although you can use your microwave, we do not recommend it.

How Do I Freeze Uncrustables?

To freeze Uncrustable sandwiches, do you want to begin by preparing your sandwiches as instructed in the recipe above. Once your sandwiches are fully prepared, allow them to cool completely. From there, your sandwiches can be placed into the freezer for up to three months at a time without the worry of freezer burn.
