Below is our copycat recipe for Panera Bread Cinnamon Rolls. They are made using a simple sweet bread recipe and are very delicious to enjoy. Please follow the step-by-step directions below, to enjoy your very own delicious treats.

Best Cinnamon Roll Recipe

Ingredients

2 ¼ tsp yeast
½ cup warm water
¼ cup granulated sugar
½ tsp salt
½ cup milk
¼ cup butter, melted
2 large eggs
3 ½ cup all-purpose flour

Filling:

¼ cup butter melted
1 cup brown sugar
2 Tbsp cinnamon

Topping:

3 cups powdered sugar, more if runny
2 Tbsp melted butter
1 tsp vanilla
2 Tbsp milk

Directions

Step1: In a mixing bowl, combine yeast, warm water, and sugar. Mix just until yeast is dissolved. Allow mixture to sit for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, the yeast mixture should be a bit frothy.

Step 2: Add salt, milk, butter, eggs, and flour. Mix until dough begins to form one large ball. If your dough is still mushy, add more flour until dough forms one ball.

Step 3: Coat a bowl in olive oil and place your dough that has been formed into a ball in the bowl. Turn once so that your greased side of the dough faces up. Cover with a damp cloth and allow to rise until it is double in size. You can tell if the dough has doubled by taking two fingers and pressing them into the dough. If it leaves an indent, the dough is doubled in size. This should take about 1 ½ to 2 hours if stored in a place that is draft-free and about 80 to 85°F.

Step 4: Punch down your dough after it has risen the first time. Lightly flour a clean surface and roll dough out on it. Roll dough into a rectangle shape for larger cinnamon rolls. Brush your melted or soft butter on the dough, then sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon. Roll the dough into a loaf shape.

Step 5: Using a knife or long piece of floss, cut your cinnamon rolls so that they are about 1 ½ inch to 2 inches wide. Place cinnamon rolls in a greased pan, cover, and allow to rise until double in size. This should take between 40 to 60 minutes.

Step 6: Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake for 20-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Remove and allow to cool while you create the frosting.

Step 7: In a mixing bowl, combine powdered sugar, melted butter, vanilla, and milk. Mix until well combined. If your frosting is too runny, add more powdered sugar, if it is too thick, add a little bit more milk. Drizzle on top of cinnamon rolls while they are still warm. Serve right away and enjoy!

Notes: Cinnamon rolls are going to be best if enjoyed while fresh. You can save them for a day or two, but they typically will get hard if kept much longer. You may microwave them for 30 seconds or less if you would like to enjoy leftovers. This will help to make them soft and fresh again.

Tips and Tricks

Rise. The trick to making delicious Panera Bread Cinnamon Rolls is to be sure you allow enough time for the dough to rise and then to allow the cinnamon rolls to fully rise. If you cut this process short, it will be noticeable and result in smaller, harder cinnamon rolls.

Done. To tell if your rolls are completely baked, you can avoid gooey centers by inserting a knife or toothpick near the center of your pan. If your toothpick comes out without any dough residue on it, then you are good to go. If there is still dough on it, then allow your rolls to continue baking.

Cover. If your rolls are looking rather done on the outside but a toothpick still comes out with dough on it, try covering the top of your pan with foil and continue baking. This will prevent the outside of your cinnamon rolls from burning, but still having a gooey center.

Fresh. Cinnamon rolls are always best fresh. If you would like to prepare your cinnamon rolls the night before and bake them in the morning so that they are fresh, you can definitely do this. Simply place your pan of rolls in the fridge after you have fully prepared them. They will continue to rise at a slower rate in the fridge overnight. Remove them from the fridge 30-50 minutes before you wish to bake them and then bake as instructed.

Storage. Cinnamon rolls are at their best when enjoyed fresh from the oven. If you have any leftover you wish to save, you can place them in an airtight container and store in your fridge or at room temperature. Allow them to be kept no more than 3-4 days. Cinnamon rolls may be frozen; however, they tend to be stale after freezing. For best results, enjoy the day that they are made.
