Should I Use Bottled Lemon Juice or Fresh Squeezed?

The short answer is either one will work. However, if you have the option to use fresh squeezed lemon juice, then seize the moment and do it. It will make your popsicles taste better. But if you only have bottled lemon juice, that will work too. I’ve made them that way before in a pinch. You can even use bottled lemonade if you prefer!

What Can I Add to My Lemonade Popsicles?

We encourage you to be creative and add some fun items to your popsicle if you want to. Think about the person or people who will consume them and what they will enjoy.

Some add-in ideas include: gummy bears or gummy candy for added texture, fresh berries such as blueberries, strawberries or raspberries for an added pop of color, lemon slices for added interest, baking sprinkles for a celebratory appearance and more. The sky’s the limit to be creative and let us know what you come up with.

Lemon Popsicle Expert Tips

Use a measuring cup when making this recipe. It would be easy to just make an estimate and be done, but if you take the time to use a measuring cup, the results are sure to be a success.

If you have the availability to use fresh lemon juice, then seize the moment and do it. It makes the popsicle taste better.

To simplify the process of filling your popsicle molds, use a funnel or pitcher meant for pouring liquid. It makes things easier.

If using silicone molds which can be quite floppy, set them on a low rimmed tray or pan to make them easier to move from the counter to the freezer.

Don’t forget to add the popsicle sticks. Some popsicle molds accommodate a stick being added as soon as the liquid is added to the mold, while others work better after the liquid is partially frozen. Set an alarm to help remind you if yours need to be added later.

When removing the frozen popsicles from the molds, allow them to sit for a few minutes at room temperature for an easier ability to get them out.

How To Store Lemon Popsicles

Lemon popsicles should be kept in the freezer until they are ready to be served. It is best to store them in a sealed plastic bag in the freezer. This will also free up your popsicle molds and allow you to use them to make more popsicles if you’re planning to serve a larger crowd.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where Can I Buy Popsicle Sticks?

There are many places where popsicle sticks are sold such as online manufacturers, dollar stores, craft stores and even your local grocery store. If it is challenging to find popsicle sticks, you can also improvise and use a small straw such as a coffee straw for a handle.

Where Can I Buy A Popsicle Mold?

In the spring or early summertime you can usually find silicone or plastic popsicle molds at places that sell household and kitchen items. Or buying them online is also an option.

But it’s also okay to be creative and use something that you might already have on hand. For example, I remember making popsicles back in the day inside a small yogurt cup or dixie cup and those will work just as well. The shape does not alter the flavor.

Can These Be Made Sugar Free?

Yes. They sure can be made sugar free. Instead of the sugar, substitute the equivalent of your favorite artificial sweetener and fully dissolve before adding water. Or you can also use ¼ cup of honey, for this recipe, in place of the sugar. You will still achieve delicious results.

Are Lemon Popsicles Gluten Free?

Yes. This recipe is fully gluten free. So, if you’re making them for someone who requires a gluten free diet, just make sure that you’re not including any add-ins such as sprinkles or other items that consist of gluten.

4 Ingredient Creamy Lemon Popsicles

If you want to take this recipe and turn it into a creamy popsicle recipe, all you need to do is add some plain yogurt. Try adding ¼ cup plain yogurt or plain Greek yogurt to the mix and you’ve turned your 3 ingredient plain popsicle recipe into a 4 ingredient creamy popsicle recipe.

Are These Healthy?

Yes. Of course they’re healthy. I mean they include sugar, but the lemon and yogurt are nutritious and healthy. You can’t go wrong. If you’re feeling like they include too much sugar for your diet, then you can always cut some out or use a substitute such as honey or your favorite artificial sweetener.

Including lemon in your diet has many health benefits including supporting heart health, being an excellent source of vitamin C, they can help prevent kidney stones, assisting in weight management, and are rich in antioxidants.
