Banana Bread

Ever wondered what to do with your bananas that seem to be too far gone? Try making some banana bread with them! Banana bread is a delicious quick bread that is made using a banana base, along with a few other pantry staples. One of the great things about Joy’s Easy Banana Bread is that this recipe really does include just the basics, which makes this recipe very easy to make.

How to Make Banana Bread

The process of making banana bread is very simple if you are able to measure ingredients and mix them together. Before we jump into the specifics of how to make the bread, let’s learn more about the bananas needed to make this recipe turn out amazing as well as some other helpful information.

Why Do We Use Brown Bananas

Using brown bananas is a key element to any successful banana bread. This is great too, because what else are you going to do with bananas that seem to be overly ripe and no longer appealing to just eat. Using brown bananas in banana bread ensure that your bread will be moist and that your bread will taste sweet.

How Brown Do Bananas Need to Be

A good way to tell if your bananas are brown enough is to determine if you would eat them or not. If they are too far gone for you to enjoy eating, then they are most likely perfect for banana bread.

Just by looking at the bananas, you are going to want to start to see the brown spots appear on the bananas. If it is still all yellow, wait a little bit before making your bread. On the other hand, if your bananas are completely brown and rotten, you probably will want to start again with a new batch of bananas.

How to Freeze Ripened Bananas

What if you have bananas that are perfectly ripe, but you are not ready to make bread out of them? A great way to preserve your bananas is to freeze them! That’s right, you can freeze bananas. The best way is to place them on parchment paper on a cookie sheet and allow them to freeze. Once frozen you will want to warp them in plastic wrap or place them in a plastic bag in the freezer. They can be stored there for several weeks before use.

How to Store Banana Bread

Supposing you have any of your delicious banana bread left after making it and enjoying it fresh, you can store your banana bread in an airtight container at room temperature if you want. Please note that your bread stored at room temperature will most likely only last about four days. If you do not plan to eat the rest of your bread right away, you can wrap it securely in plastic wrap and place it in the fridge. Your banana bread can stay frozen for about three to four months. Now, let’s take a look at how to make the bread.

Banana Bread Ingredients

Ripe bananas
Sugar
Eggs
Butter
All-purpose flour
Baking soda
Salt
Cinnamon (optional)

Steps to Make Joy’s Easy Banana Bread

There are just a few simple steps to follow when making Joy’s Easy Banana Bread. Start off with your bananas.

Mash The Bananas

Your bananas are going to need to be mashed. A great place to start when making your bread is to peel and mash them up.

Combine Wet Ingredients

Then you are going to want to combine all your wet ingredients together. This would include your bananas, eggs, and melted butter.

Add Sugars

Next, you can add your sugar into the banana bread mixture.

Add Dry Ingredients

Once all of your wet ingredients and sugar has been added, you can add your dry ingredients. These would include flour, baking soda, and salt.

Stir

Stir your mixture together so that everything is combined. Once everything is mixed together, stop stirring.

Mix Ins

At this point, if you have any additional ingredients you would like to mix in, such as chocolate chips, or nuts, this would be a great time to fold them into your bread batter.

Pour Batter Into Pan & Bake!

Once you have all of your ingredients mixed in, you will want to take a bread loaf pan and spray it thoroughly with cooking spray. Then pour the bread batter into your pan and smooth it so that it is evenly distributed. Then place it into your preheated oven and bake for one hour.

Cool

Once a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean you can remove it from the oven. Place it on your stovetop, or cooling rack and allow it to cool for 10-15 minutes in the pan. Then take a knife or spatula and separate the bread from the sides of your bread pan. Gently pull away from the sides and shake to make sure it is loose. Then flip upside down and remove the loaf of bread. Allow it to finish cooling.

If you would like bread that is extra moist, you can try removing the bread from the loaf pan, then place it into a storage container and put the lid on. This allows the moisture that leaves your bread through the steam to return to your loaf of bread.

To Store/Freeze

You may store your bread in an airtight container on the countertop for about four days. Or you can wrap it securely in plastic wrap, then place it inside a plastic freezer bag, and freeze it for three to four months.

Tips to Make the Best Banana Bread

Tailor to Your Taste

One great way to make the best banana bread is to tailor it to your specific tastes. If there are certain spices you really enjoy in banana bread, then add them. For example, cinnamon is one of my favorite aspects of banana bread. It is not a requirement, simply something that I really like the taste of. If there are items like this, then be sure to add them to your bread.

Tips For Super Moist Banana Bread

Very ripe bananas are key. Using bananas that are very ripe will make your bread extra moist. It will also make your bread a little sweeter when you use very ripe bananas.

Add an extra moisture ingredient. If you are looking for extra moist banana bread, you can try adding ½ cup of sour cream or even yogurt.

Don’t over mix the batter. A key to making the best banana bread is to not overmix your batter. Mix it just enough, but once everything is combined, stop mixing.

Don’t over bake. Be careful to not overbake your bread. You want to bake it just so that it is done, not well done. Over baking will draw extra steam out of your bread and drain it of the moisture.
