McDonald’s Biscuits and Gravy
Warm McDonald’s biscuits and gravy is a delicious start to your day, but what happens if your McDonald’s has discontinued this favorite? Making your own homemade gravy biscuit is surprisingly a very easy process and allows you to have a deliciously filling breakfast. To make the biscuits you can use any basic biscuit recipe, or we have included one below. We have also prepared a walk through on how to go about making your gravy and biscuits.
Ingredients in the Sausage Biscuit
To make your own homemade McDonald’s copycat gravy biscuit, you will need to be sure you have a few basic baking items. Making the biscuits are a basic process, but let’s first take a look at what you will need for the gravy, and what makes it taste, oh so good.
Sausage gravy is made with a base of sausage, butter, flour and milk. It is a white gravy with cooked sausage in it. Making this gravy is surprisingly easy.
Any kind of sausage may be used to make this gravy, however our favorite to use is pork sausage. You will want to purchase a one-pound package of your favorite sausage and cook it at home, when you are ready to make your biscuits and gravy. Besides pork sausage, you may also use turkey sausage, or even ground beef.
Some suggest using bacon grease as a base for your gravy. However, if you are cooking your own sausage at home, there is no need to use bacon grease. Simply add a cup of water to your sausage as you are cooking it, and then drain the grease from your cooked sausage into the pan for your gravy base. This can eliminate the need for bacon grease. If you are using pre-cooked sausage, you will want to use bacon grease, as you won’t have the other.
All Purpose Flour
All-purpose flour is a key ingredient in the gravy. To thicken the gravy, you will want to use corn starch or flour sprinkled in. This is what makes your gravy thicken up. If you are not able to use flour, corn starch will also work well.
Milk is an important ingredient in this gravy recipe. This gravy is a milk-based gravy, which means this is what makes up the overall contents of the gravy.
Basic seasonings used in this gravy to help add flavor are salt and pepper. You can add as little or as much as you like to get the taste just right. Other seasonings can be added, such as garlic, to help bolster the taste. Get creative, and feel free to add other seasonings to increase the flavor.
Worcestershire sauce is another great way to add flavor to your sausage. If you want to add a couple of teaspoons to your meat as it cooks, this often adds some great flavor. However, this is optional, if you prefer to stick with the main flavors, you will still be in for a delicious copycat McDonald’s gravy biscuit.
Step By Step Instructions For Making The McDonald’s Sausage Gravy
How do you make biscuits and gravy? Easy! Begin by starting your sausage to cook over medium heat with a cup of water. Check on it occasionally and stir.
While your sausage is cooking, mix your biscuit batter together in a mixing bowl. Then cut out your shapes. Place them on a greased baking sheet and bake for a few moments.
While your biscuits are baking, your sausage should be finished now. Drain your grease into a fresh pan and remove your sausage from the heat.
Add butter to your skillet with grease and allow your butter to melt. Sprinkle your flour into the mixture and stir until no lumps remain. Now it is time to add your milk and stir to combine. Then add your cooked sausage back into the skillet. Stir over a low simmer until your mixture begins to thicken. Keep in mind that your gravy will thicken even more as it cools.
Remove your cooked biscuits from the oven, and top with hot gravy. Serve and enjoy the wonderful taste!
If you are looking for a delicious side to go with your gravy biscuit, try enjoying it with some coffee. No matter how you enjoy your coffee, it is the perfect complement to your homemade biscuits and gravy.
