Let’s look at this recipe for sausage green bean potato casserole and as we walk you through the step-by-step process of how you can easily make a delicious casserole, all in one pan.

Let’s begin by looking at the ingredients you will need in order to make sausage green bean potato casserole, then we will walk you through the step-by-step instructions you can easily follow to make it.

Sausage, Green Bean, Potato Bake

Ingredients Needed For This Dish

Potatoes. We recommend that you use either red potatoes or yellow potatoes for this recipe. They give the best overall appearance, and flavor.

If needed you can use russet potatoes, but our preference is red or yellow.

Green beans. When it comes to green beans, our preference is to use frozen whole green beans. You can use canned, or even fresh if desired.

If you’re using canned green beans, you’ll want to be sure to add them at the very end. Or for fresh, you’ll want to be sure to blanch them before adding them into the casserole.

Sausage. For sausage, we recommend using your favorite type of sausage kielbasa or smoked sausage.

Our favorite to use is beef smoked sausage, the kind that comes in a long section that’s folded in a half circle. You can use any type of sausage you want.

Olive oil. We recommend that you use olive oil, or another type of oil, to drizzle on your potatoes, green beans, and sausage as they bake.

Seasonings. For seasonings, we recommend using salt, pepper, a little bit of garlic salt, and some parsley for garnish.

You are welcome to add or subtract seasonings as you wish.

How To Make Sausage Green Bean Potato Casserole

To make your sausage green bean casserole, begin first by washing the potatoes, and cutting them into cubes. Then place the potatoes in your baking dish and toss them with olive oil.

Place the casserole dish into the oven and heat the oven to 425°F (218.3°C). Bake the potatoes for approximately 20 minutes.

When the potatoes are nearly done, remove the casserole dish from the oven. Slice the sausage and open the package of frozen green beans. Add both the sausage and green beans to the casserole dish.

Drizzle with olive oil, then toss the ingredients to combine. Season with salt, pepper, garlic salt as desired. Place back into the oven and bake for another 10 minutes or until the sausage and green beans are done.

Remove the casserole from the oven, and sprinkle with parsley. Then serve right away and enjoy!

How to Serve

The best way to enjoy your sausage, green bean and potato bake is to serve it fresh from the oven. Although it can be kept for later, it is best when fresh.

Your casserole bake is pretty much an entire meal in and of itself. However, if you wish to serve the casserole with another side dish or beverage, here are some of our favorites:

How To Store Sausage Green Bean Potato Casserole

At room temperature: this casserole is best when kept at room temperature for no more than two hours. After that it should be placed in the fridge.

In the fridge: to store this casserole in the fridge, we recommend transferring it to an airtight container. Then once it’s sealed place it into the fridge for up to 3 to 4 days.

How To Reheat Sausage Green Bean Potato Casserole

There are a few different ways you can reheat leftover sausage, green beans and potato casserole.

In the oven. Reheating leftover casserole in the oven is one of the easiest ways. Simply preheat your oven to 350°F, then transfer the leftovers into an oven safe dish.

Bake in the oven for approximately 15 to 20 minutes or until the casserole is reheated.

In the air fryer. You can preheat an air fryer to 350°F, then add your leftover casserole into the air fryer basket.

Air fry for approximately 8 to 10 minutes or until the food is warmed through.

Tips & Tricks

Bake just the potatoes first. We strongly recommend that you leave the potatoes in the oven to bake them first.

This will let them get nice and tender, and you will have all of the ingredients prepared at the same time.

Then after the potatoes are baked, add the green beans and sausage.

Canned green beans. If you are using canned green beans, then you want to wait a little while before adding them in the casserole.

Usually, canned green beans will only need to be warmed in the oven at 425°F for about 10 minutes or less.

Make Ahead Instructions

To make this casserole in advance, we recommend that you either bake the potatoes ahead of time, or cut them into cubes, and cover them with a little bit of water. Then microwave them until tender.

Once they are tender, you can add them into a container along with your sausage and green beans. Store them together until you are ready to bake the casserole.

This allows your casserole to be ready much faster.

There are many other vegetables you can include in your casserole if desired. But, you’ll want to keep in mind the cooking time for the vegetables. Meaning, if they take a long time to cook, then you may want to add them in with the potatoes, or after the potatoes are partly baked.

Some of our favorite vegetables to add in as a variation include: broccoli, cauliflower, fresh green beans, carrots, or a mixture of red and yellow potatoes.

Can This Sausage Green Bean Potato Casserole Be Made In The Slow Cooker?

Technically, yes this casserole can be made in the slow cooker, however it will not have the same results as when it is baked in the oven.

Most likely if you cook this casserole in a crockpot, it will become mushy, rather than crispy like the oven makes it.

Can I use fresh green beans?

Yes, you can use fresh green beans in this casserole if desired. You will want to be sure that you blanch green beans by boiling them in water, and then cooling in ice water before adding the fresh green beans into the casserole. This will make them bake the best in the oven.

Which Potatoes To Use?

We recommend using red skin potatoes, yellow, or golden potatoes in this casserole. You can use russet potatoes if desired, but make sure that they are washed thoroughly before cutting them and adding them into the dish.

Should You Peel Potatoes for Potato Casserole?

There is no need to peel the potatoes before adding them into the casserole.
