Sausage, Green Bean, Potato Bake

Ingredients Needed For This Dish

Potatoes. We recommend that you use either red potatoes or yellow potatoes for this recipe. They give the best overall appearance, and flavor.

If needed you can use russet potatoes, but our preference is red or yellow.

Green beans. When it comes to green beans, our preference is to use frozen whole green beans. You can use canned, or even fresh if desired.

If you’re using canned green beans, you’ll want to be sure to add them at the very end. Or for fresh, you’ll want to be sure to blanch them before adding them into the casserole.

Sausage. For sausage, we recommend using your favorite type of sausage kielbasa or smoked sausage.

Our favorite to use is beef smoked sausage, the kind that comes in a long section that’s folded in a half circle. You can use any type of sausage you want.

Olive oil. We recommend that you use olive oil, or another type of oil, to drizzle on your potatoes, green beans, and sausage as they bake.

Seasonings. For seasonings, we recommend using salt, pepper, a little bit of garlic salt, and some parsley for garnish.

You are welcome to add or subtract seasonings as you wish.

When the potatoes are nearly done, remove the casserole dish from the oven. Slice the sausage and open the package of frozen green beans. Add both the sausage and green beans to the casserole dish.

Drizzle with olive oil, then toss the ingredients to combine. Season with salt, pepper, garlic salt as desired. Place back into the oven and bake for another 10 minutes or until the sausage and green beans are done.

Tips & Tricks

Bake just the potatoes first. We strongly recommend that you leave the potatoes in the oven to bake them first.

This will let them get nice and tender, and you will have all of the ingredients prepared at the same time.

Then after the potatoes are baked, add the green beans and sausage.

Canned green beans. If you are using canned green beans, then you want to wait a little while before adding them in the casserole.

Usually, canned green beans will only need to be warmed in the oven at 425°F for about 10 minutes or less.

Make Ahead Instructions

To make this casserole in advance, we recommend that you either bake the potatoes ahead of time, or cut them into cubes, and cover them with a little bit of water. Then microwave them until tender.

Once they are tender, you can add them into a container along with your sausage and green beans. Store them together until you are ready to bake the casserole.

This allows your casserole to be ready much faster.

Variations

There are many other vegetables you can include in your casserole if desired. But, you’ll want to keep in mind the cooking time for the vegetables. Meaning, if they take a long time to cook, then you may want to add them in with the potatoes, or after the potatoes are partly baked.

Some of our favorite vegetables to add in as a variation include: broccoli, cauliflower, fresh green beans, carrots, or a mixture of red and yellow potatoes.
