Ingredients

Apples. Apples are the main ingredient here, we recommend using apple varieties such as Pink Lady, Honeycrisp, Gala, Evercrisp, Fuiji, or Granny Smith apples. Be sure that you have apples that are in good condition, as you will be using sliced apple for the base of your recipe.

Lemon Juice. We strongly encourage you to soak your apples in a little lemon juice and water before grilling. This will help prevent them from turning brown and will add extra moisture to your apples before they are grilled.

Butter. Brushing your apple slices with butter will help them cook really well, and give them a lovely flavor.

Cinnamon. We recommend using a little bit of cinnamon to help season your apples and make them into a tasty treat. Let’s be real, grilled cinnamon apples taste amazing!

Sugar. To add a little bit of extra sweetness to your apples, we recommend using brown sugar on your apples to give them a light caramel-like flavor.

Nutmeg. Using nutmeg to help season your apples will give them a lovely flavor. We recommend that you only use a little bit of this ingredient, as a little can go a long way.

Cloves. Including cloves in your grilled apple recipe will also help to season your apples.

Caramel Sauce. Adding caramel sauce to your finished apples is optional, but we enjoy the added salted caramel flavor, of adding caramel sauce to make grilled caramel apples. If you would rather use a substitute for caramel sauce, a drizzle of honey on your finished apples makes for amazing grilled honey cinnamon apples.

How to Grill Apples

How to Prepare Apples for Grilling

Before you begin grilling apples, you will need to prepare the apples. To do this, you will want to wash the apples and wipe them dry. Be sure to remove any stickers they may have on them. You will also want to remove the stems.

Then, there are two ways you can cut your apples to grill. You may cut them into slices vertically like you normally would eat them, or you can grill apple slices cut horizontally. We often prefer to cut them horizontally as they make a nice presentation, but it is completely up to you.

Next, in a bowl, add your apple slices, and cover with water and a little bit of lemon juice. Let your apples rest while your grill preheats.

Steps to Make It

While you are preparing your apples for the grill it is a great idea to light your grill and allow it time to preheat. Once it is warm you can add your apples.

Remove your apples from the lemon water and brush one side with melted butter. Place buttered side down on the grill grates. (If your apple slices are too small for the grill grates, you may place them on aluminum foil so that they don’t fall through.)

Let your apples cook for 5-10 minutes before turning. Before you turn, brush the other side of your apples with the remaining butter, then turn. Cook for another 5-10 minutes on the final side.

When your apples are soft, place a sheet of aluminum foil on the grill. Add your apples on top of the aluminum.

Sprinkle the top of your apples with your sugar and spice mixture. Allow the sugar to start to melt, then remove it from your grill.

Now get creative according to how you want to serve them

Before you serve, add any toppings to your grilled apples that you desire. Then serve the apples while they are still warm, and enjoy!

Tips

How to cut apples…the fast way!

There are several different ways you can quickly cut apples. For this recipe, you will want to first determine how you want your apple slices to end up, then you can cut them.

Use a Knife. To use a knife and cut your apples into a simple vertical slice, you will want to work around the core. First, cut the two sides off your apple, then cut the two smaller sides remaining. Slice the cut portions into your desired size.

You can also cut horizontally using a knife. First cut and discard the top and bottom portions, then cut your remaining apple into slices ¼ inch thick.

Use a Mandolin. If you have access to a mandolin, you can carefully use this to slice your apples in a quick way that will give you equal sized slices.

Use an Apple Slicer. You can also use an apple slicer if you want to make a bloomin’ apple style of grilled apples, or you can simply use the apple slices and cut them in half to grill.
