Mocha Cold Brew Basic Ingredients

Cold Brew Coffee

Cold brew coffee is typically made by combining coffee grounds with room temperature water, or cold water. However, there are other options for the coffee in this recipe if you prefer.

One is to make a coffee concentrate using regular coffee, only making it a strong brew.

Another option is to make any coffee concentrate by finally grinding coffee beans, and then brewing them strong.

Our favorite way is to make a cold brew concentrate using ground coffee, and room-temperature water to make a black coffee base for the cold brew recipe.

Chocolate-Flavored Syrup

Chocolate syrup is another key ingredient. We recommend using a basic chocolate syrup. However, you could also use a chocolate sauce or rich semi-sweet chocolate that has been melted if you prefer.

We have found the best results using a basic chocolate syrup or chocolate topping, such as Hershey’s chocolate syrup, or your local store brand chocolate syrup.

Milk (Copycat Chick-fil-a Sweetened Cream)

Milk is another key ingredient in making a mocha cold brew recipe. However, it makes it even more authentic, to make a copycat of Chick-fil-A sweetened cream as is their ingredients, the Chick-fil-A recipe not only contains milk, but their website lists sweetened cream as the key ingredient. One of our favorite ways to make a copycat version of this is to combine the sweetened condensed milk with whole milk. You can always use a mixture of whole milk, and heavy cream to make it even creamier if desired.

Another easy variation of this recipe is to use mocha-flavored coffee creamer combined with your favorite type of milk.

Ice Cubes

To serve the cold brew mocha, you will likely want to serve it over ice. To do this you can make ice cubes in an ice cube tray, enjoy it with your favorite chewy ice, or simply use the ice tray in your freezer to make ice cubes or crushed ice, whatever your preference will work well.

Perfect Additions

Above are the main ingredients to make a copycat Chick-fil-A cold brew mocha. However, there are several additions you may wish to include as well. It’s entirely up to your taste preferences. Some popular additions include the following:

Vanilla Extract. You can enjoy adding a little bit of vanilla extract to make a vanilla iced coffee flavor.

French Vanilla Syrup. A French vanilla syrup would add some additional vanilla flavor to the cold brew mocha and add a bit of sweetener as well.

Simple Syrup. If you’re looking for another type of sweetener, in addition to the chocolate syrup, adding a bit of simple syrup to your cold brew mocha will give you additional sweetness without as much chocolate flavor.

Pure Cane Syrup. Another alternative to sweeten your cold brew mocha coffee is to use cane sugar to make a type of simple syrup using pure cane sugar.

How to Make Copycat Chick-fil-A Cold Brew Mocha Recipe

Making this copycat Chick-fil-A cold brew mocha at home is surprisingly easy. In order to do this we recommend that you use either a mason jar with a filter insert to make the cold brew coffee or use a French press.

There is other equipment you can use as well to make a cold brew coffee, but these are our two favorite methods.

Mason Jar with Filter Method

Add approximately 1 cup of coffee grounds into the filter. Fill the half-gallon mason jar with approximately 4 cups of water, then slowly run the remainder of the water through the filter containing coffee grounds.

When the jar is full, sealed with a lid, gently shake it to moisten the rest of the coffee grounds, then place it into the fridge overnight to brew.

The next day, you can remove the filter containing coffee grounds, then add in the milk, and chocolate syrup. Stir or shake thoroughly until it is combined. You are then ready to enjoy your delicious copycat Chick-fil-A cold brew recipe.

French Press Method

To make a mocha cold brew using a French press, you will first want to add the coffee grounds into the French press. Then add warm or hot water into the coffee grounds and whisk to combine. Cover and refrigerate overnight or for at least two hours.

After the cold brew coffee has had time to brew in the French press, press the plunger of the French press down to separate the brewed coffee from the coffee grounds.

Pour the cold brew coffee into another pitcher to separate it from the coffee grounds. In this pitcher whisk in chocolate syrup, and milk until combined.

You can serve the delicious swirl of cold-brewed coffee mocha over ice if desired or store it in a sealed container in the fridge until you’re ready to serve. Enjoy!

Tips & Tricks

Brewing Method. How you brew the cold brew coffee is entirely up to you. There are several different cold brew gadgets you can use to make this type of coffee.

The key is that once your cold brew is made, you first want to remove the coffee grounds, then mix in the milk, chocolate syrup, sweetener, and other ingredients as desired. Then mix thoroughly before serving.

How to Serve

After the cold brew has had a chance to fully brew the coffee, you’ll want to remove the coffee grounds, then add chocolate syrup, milk, and any other desired ingredients before mixing thoroughly.

After they are mixed in thoroughly, you can serve the mocha cold brew over ice, topped with whipped cream, drizzled with chocolate syrup, or any other way you desire.

Storage

At room temperature. Your mocha cold brew recipe should be kept at room temperature for no more than two hours before it runs the risk of growing unwanted bacteria and needing to be thrown away. The best way to store it is in the fridge when it is not being served.

In the fridge. After the mocha cold brew is prepared, it can be stored in an airtight container such as a mason jar with a lid, for up to one week.

Variation

There are a few different variations to this basic copycat mocha cold brew recipe. Some of them are delicious and you may want to mix it up a little bit so we are going to share some of the details of the most common ones with you.

Make a Frosted Coffee

As you may be aware, another favorite Chick-fil-A menu item is frosted coffee. This is simply when you mix vanilla ice cream with cold coffee to make a coffee-flavored milkshake type of drink.

You can easily make a frosted coffee using this mocha cold brew. It turns into a delicious chocolate and coffee-flavored ice cream mixture.

Use Coffee Extract

Another alternative to using cold brew is to use some coffee extract instead. However, it’s important to point out that most coffee extract recipes require several days to make, and often contain alcohol.

Although this is not our favorite way to replace cold brew coffee, it is an option if you wish.

Notes of Smooth Caramel

Another delicious variation of this recipe is to add caramel syrup in addition to the chocolate syrup. This adds delicious notes of smooth caramel flavors throughout your cold brew mocha.

Fudgy Chunks

Another option is to use fudge chunks in the cold brew mocha if desired. You can use fudge chunks to get the tasty chunky fudge, or you can add hot fudge ice cream topping instead of chocolate syrup to the cold brew for that tasty fudge texture.

Cup of Hot Joe

Another way to enjoy a café mocha is to make it hot rather than cold brew. This can be done simply by brewing strong coffee in your coffee maker, then combining it with milk, and chocolate syrup to make a hot mocha coffee.

There are many ways you can enjoy this delicious copycat Chick-fil-A mocha cold brew recipe. Feel free to mix things up and make it just the way you like it.
