Cake Batter Latte Ingredients

Cake Batter Syrup

The cake batter syrup is essentially a simple syrup with added cake batter flavoring making it a sweet cake batter flavor that can be added to your beverage to sweeten it to your liking.

To make the cake batter syrup, you will need three basic ingredients.

Hot Water. You are going to want to combine hot water with sugar to make a simple syrup.

Sugar. For the sweetener, we recommend using granulated sugar. However, if you need an alternative, you can use brown sugar, maple syrup, honey, agave nectar, or your favorite sweetener.

Cake Batter Extract. You will then want to add some cake better extract to the hot water and sugar mixture so that you get a sweet cake batter flavored syrup to use as a sweetener in your latte.

Espresso

To make the most authentic copycat version of this cake batter latte, you will want to make a few shots of brewed espresso to add to your beverage.

However, if you do not have espresso, you could also use some strong brewed coffee, instant espresso powder, or instant coffee to mix into your beverage to get that coffee flavor.

If possible, we strongly recommend that you use espresso, even if it is not brewed in an espresso machine, but you can also do it in a French press, or even a drip coffee maker if necessary.

Using espresso will give you that smooth espresso taste and texture making it taste the best.

Milk

The next ingredient you will want to include in your latte is milk. To be the most authentic, we recommend using whole milk, although you can use skim milk, or other types of milk such as coconut milk, or oat milk.

You can also use creamer to get that sweet cream flavor. Occasionally, you can even find international delight creamer selling a birthday cake-flavored creamer.

In addition to milk being added to the latte, you can froth some milk to make it foamy. You don’t need a special milk froth to do this, but you can use an immersion blender, and a French press, moving the paddle up and down quickly to make the milk frothy.

Or you can even add the milk into a mason jar and shake it vigorously for a few minutes until it becomes foamy.

Cake Batter Extract

We suggest using cake batter extract in your latte in order to get that cake batter flavor. We will give you our suggested measurements to include in your latte below, but you can feel free to add as much or as little cake batter extract as you enjoy.

Whipped Cream

We also recommend topping your cake batter latte off with whipped cream. Of course, you can’t go wrong with whipped cream. So, whatever your favorite type of whipped cream is, make sure you add a squirt to the top of your latte before serving.

Chocolate Syrup

The cake batter latte is topped with a drizzle of chocolate syrup before it is served. You can make your own chocolate syrup using cocoa powder with a few other ingredients, or you can simply pick up a bottle of chocolate syrup from your grocery store and drizzle it on top of your latte.

Another great option is to use white chocolate syrup on top of your latte if you prefer white chocolate flavored over chocolate. You can make your own white chocolate syrup, or you can pick some up at the grocery store.

Rainbow Sprinkles

Colored sprinkles are another icon of cake batter flavoring, no matter what type of cake batter it is.

We recommend adding multicolored sprinkles to the top of your cake batter latte before serving it because let’s be honest who doesn’t like a few cherry sprinkles added to the top of their drink?

Another great option would be to add chocolate chips if you prefer them rather than sprinkles.

Caramel Drizzle (optional)

A drizzle of caramel syrup is not included in the original cake batter latte from Dunkin’ Donuts, but we enjoy including it occasionally. You can make your own caramel syrup, or simply pick up a bottle at the grocery store, then add a squirt to drizzle the top of your latte before serving.

How to Make a Homemade Cake Batter Latte

To make the cake batter latte recipe, please note this drink can be made in both a hot version and an iced version. Let’s start off with the hot version.

Begin by making the cake batter flavored syrup. To do this you will want to add water and sugar into a saucepan and place it over medium-low heat. Bring the mixture to a light simmer for one minute.

After that remove it from the heat. Add the cake batter extract to the syrup mixture and set it aside to cool.

Now it’s time to prepare espresso or strong brewed coffee. There are a variety of methods you can use to brew espresso or coffee.

If you have a French press, you can combine the grounds with hot water and let them rest for a few minutes before pouring them out. Or you can use a drip coffee maker if necessary. Of course, if you have an espresso machine, feel free to use that for the best results.

Next, you will also want to warm the milk for a hot latte. Add the milk into a small saucepan or microwave it for a minute or two until it is warmed.

If you are warming it on the stovetop, make sure to heat the milk over low heat, just until it begins to steam, and be sure to keep a close eye on it so that it does not burn. Heat the milk just until it is warm.

Add the brewed espresso or strong-brewed coffee to your serving glass. Next, add in the warmed milk, and cake batter extract, then add as much cake batter flavored syrup as you enjoy, to taste.

Top your hot latte with whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles, and a drizzle of chocolate syrup. Then serve the hot latte right away and enjoy!

Iced Cake Batter Latte

To make an iced version of this cake batter latte recipe, the steps will be similar. Start off by making the cake batter flavored syrup. To make this, combine the sugar and water, over medium heat and simmer for a minute. Then remove it from the heat, add the cake batter extract, and allow it to cool.

You will then want to brew the espresso or strong-brewed coffee. There are many different methods you can use, including the cold brew method, since this is an iced coffee.

You can make the espresso in advance and put it in the fridge so that it is cooled when added to your iced latte, or you can make it extra strong so that the ice does not dilute the hot espresso.

Once the cake batter flavored syrup and espresso are brewed, it’s time to make the latte.

To make an iced cake batter latte, add the ice to your glass. Then add your cooled espresso, and cake batter flavored syrup.

Pour in your desired milk, along with cake batter extract. Mix these ingredients together, then top the iced drink off with whipped cream, a drizzle of chocolate syrup, and rainbow sprinkles. Serve right away and enjoy!

Tips & Tricks

Cake batter flavored syrup. If you wish to make this drink on the fly, we recommend making the cake batter flavored syrup in advance and storing it in a mason jar with a lid inside of your fridge until you are ready to use it. This way it’s ready whenever you prepare the drink.

Chilled espresso. To make an iced version of this latte, we strongly recommend that you either cold brew the espresso or make the espresso in advance and store it in a mason jar in the fridge. This way it is already made, and chilled so that you will get the best flavor when it is added to your iced beverage.

How to Serve a Cake Batter Latte

This cake batter latte recipe can be enjoyed both as an iced latte, or as a hot latte, whatever your preference. This drink is best served with your favorite type of whipped cream, a drizzle of chocolate syrup, white chocolate syrup, or even caramel syrup.

Finish the drink off with a sprinkle of multicolored sprinkles, to add the cake batter feel to your latte. Enjoy!

Storage

Room temperature. Your cake batter latte no matter if it is hot or cold is going to be best when it is enjoyed quickly. You can keep this beverage at room temperature for up to two hours, but it is going to be best when it is enjoyed right after it is made.

In the fridge. If you wish to save this cake batter latte for later, you can store it in the fridge for up to 5 to 7 days. We recommend storing the prepared drink without any ice cubes, and without whipped cream or any other toppings.

Store in an airtight container, such as a mason jar with a lid, for the best results.

Variations

In addition to making a cake batter latte, there are other ways you can make this drink as well as other flavors you can enjoy.

Other Flavors

French Vanilla. The cake batter latte recipe above focuses on cake batter flavoring, from cake batter extract. However, if you want to mix things up you could use imitation vanilla extract to come up with a French vanilla-flavored latte recipe.

Almond Extract. Another flavor variation would be to use almond extract in place of the cake batter extract mentioned above. This will allow you to make an almond flavored latte.

Iced Latte

As mentioned above, this cake batter latte recipe can be made both as an iced latte or as a hot latte. The different parts of this drink are usually prepared hot, then can either be served hot, chilled or served over ice.

Please note that if you are making an iced latte using hot coffee, you will want to make the coffee at least double in strength, and you will likely want to let it cool for a little while before adding it to the iced latte.

Another great option would be to make the espresso or strong coffee in advance and let it chill in the fridge, or prepare the strong coffee or espresso as cold brew coffee or espresso.

Ice Cream

Another fun variation of this cake batter latte recipe is to make it an iced latte and add ice cream, or you can even add ice cream to make this cake batter latte into a Frappuccino. Let’s be honest, you just can’t go wrong with adding ice cream to your coffee.
