Ingredients and Substitutions
Ripe avocados. In preparing for this recipe, make sure that your avocados are nice and ripe. Be careful that they’re not overly ripe, however, we don’t want them to be under-ripe either.
Sour cream or Greek yogurt. You may choose to use Greek yogurt or sour cream for this recipe. Either one works well and helps to make the cream sauce nice and creamy.
Lime juice. Lime juice adds a bit of flavor to your sauce. You can use freshly squeezed lime juice for the best flavor, or you can use bottled lime juice if it is easier to find.
Garlic. Garlic helps to give your avocado sauce a lovely hint of garlic flavor. You can use freshly minced garlic, minced garlic from a jar, or even powdered garlic if preferred. Our preference is to use freshly minced garlic for the best overall flavor.
Cilantro. Cilantro also helps to add flavor to your avocado cream sauce. If you prefer, you can skip this ingredient, but we recommend including it for the best taste. Fresh cilantro will give you the best taste, but you can use dried if needed.
Salt and pepper. Adding salt and pepper to taste will help to season your sauce.
How to Make Avocado Sauce
To make this recipe, we do recommend that you use a blender or food processor. If you do not have one of these, you can simply add all the ingredients into a mixing bowl and mash them together using a potato masher. Make sure to stir until it is thoroughly combined.
To make your avocado cream sauce in a blender or food processor, add all of your ingredients into the container. Then pulse your mixture until no lumps remain.
Garnish with cilantro if desired. Serve right away, or place a layer of plastic wrap directly on your avocado mixture before placing it into the refrigerator.
When you refrigerate, make sure that it is sealed securely so that none of the avocado mixture gets exposed directly to air, this will help prevent it from turning brown.
Store in the fridge until you are ready to serve, then serve and enjoy!
