Use a butcher knife to cut your donut in half so that you have two slices. Place each slide with the cut side up on a plate.
Spread each slice with softened butter on the cut side.
Place one slice of donut in the pan with cut side down. Add the cheese on top and add the remaining donut piece.
Cook for about one minute per side until the cheese is melted or until the donut is golden brown on both sides.
