Our recipe for Barber’s French Onion Dip is a family favorite for special occasion parties and for anytime snacking. It is fresh in flavor and is delicious with chips, veggies, crackers, cheese, or anything you like to dip. And it comes together quickly with a few simple ingredients.
Heat the butter or oil and onions in a large sauté pan over medium heat until they become translucent. Reduce the heat to low and continue to stir every few minutes.
Continue cooking until the onions are nicely browned and caramelized, about 45 minutes. Add the minced garlic for the last minute and sauté. Transfer the onion and garlic mixture to the refrigerator to cool.
Mix together the mayonnaise, sour cream, salt, pepper, chives and parsley. Add cooled onion mixture and stir until well mixed.
Garnish with fresh chives and parsley if desired.
