Incredibly Easy To Make

Peanut butter cookies are incredibly easy to make because it is a simple process of creating the cookie dough, chilling the dough if desired, and baking. All that is left is to enjoy eating the cookies, simple as that! Chilling the dough is not even required. I have made the cookies both ways, and each way has turned out delicious.

Perfectly Tender & Chewy

One thing that I love about this specific recipe for peanut butter cookies, is that they always turn out so tender and chewy. I recently made a few different kinds of cookies for a family gathering, and out of all the cookie choices, these peanut butter cookies were everyone’s favorites. They were enjoyed so much because of their tender and chewy texture. I was even told that these cookies seemed to melt in your mouth while enjoying their delicious flavor.

Simple, Short Ingredient List

One of the great things about peanut butter cookies is that they have a relatively short ingredient list to make the cookie dough. They are made from common ingredients that if you bake at all, you most likely have in your pantry anyway.

Classic & Delicious

Peanut butter cookies are one of the classic cookie flavors. From their delicious peanut butter flavor that melts in your mouth when you take a bite of the cookie, to their classic crisscross pattern on top of the cookie. Peanut butter cookies are delicious treats that are a classic staple when it comes to sweet snacks.

4 Main Ingredients of a Peanut Butter Cookie Recipe

Out of all of the ingredients for peanut butter cookies, there are four main ingredients that are found in most classic recipes.

Peanut butter. Peanut butter cookies would not be the same without the featured ingredient of peanut butter. The choice is up to you whether you choose to use creamy or crunchy peanut butter. Personally, I enjoy using a mixture of the two. That way you have a mostly creamy cookie, with a hint of the peanut crunch to it, but the peanuts are not overpoweringly crunchy.

Eggs. Most classic peanut butter cookie recipes include eggs as one of the staple ingredients to give the cookies their delicious taste and consistency.

Sugar. To help balance out the savory of the peanut butter flavor, sugar is added to help sweeten up, most classic peanut butter cookies. The type of sugar used also helps to keep the texture of peanut butter cookies so that they are soft but still chewy.

Flour. Most classic peanut butter cookies are made with all-purpose flour. Although the flour can be substituted with other flour-like ingredients, unless a special diet is sought, normal flour is typically used to make these delicious cookies.

Ingredient Notes:

Peanut Butter – use whatever type you prefer. No matter if it is classic, store brand, organic, creamy, or crunchy, all types of peanut butter will work to make delicious cookies.

Sugar – for best results, use both granulated and brown sugar to get the perfect taste and texture.

Egg – large eggs are preferred when baking, but medium-sized eggs will work as well.

Flour – unless you have a food allergy or dietary need, all-purpose flour will work the best for these delicious cookies.

Leaveners – to get the perfect chewy, yet soft cookie, baking soda and baking powder should both be used.

Salt – using salt is extremely important. It helps to boost your overall flavors and bring out the sweet and savory taste that is known as peanut butter cookies.

This recipe is one that my family has enjoyed making for many years. It is an easy recipe, and if you follow these simple steps below, you should have no problems with a delicious outcome!

Ingredients

Soft butter (salted)
Creamy peanut butter
Crunchy peanut butter
Granulated sugar
Brown sugar
Baking soda
Baking powder
Egg
Vanilla
All-purpose flour

How to Make Peanut Butter Cookies

Follow these simple step-by-step instructions below for a walk-through on how to make the perfect peanut butter cookies.

Instructions

Preheat Oven:

Preheat oven to 375°F

Make Peanut Butter Mixture:

In a large mixing bowl, mix butter until it becomes creamy. Add in peanut butter and mix well. Stir in granulated sugar and brown sugar, mix until creamy. Turn the mixer off.

Add Dry Ingredients:

Add in baking soda, baking powder, eggs, vanilla, and all-purpose flour. Mix just until combined.

If desired, cover and chill dough until it is easy to handle, or between one and two hours. This step is not required if your dough is already easy to handle.

Shape:

Roll dough into small balls, about one inch in diameter, and place on a lightly greased cookie sheet.

Using a fork’s prongs, make a crisscross mark on the center of the cookie, so that it slightly flattens out the cookie at the same time.

Bake:

Bake between 8 to 10 minutes, just until the bottom begins to turn a golden brown. Remove from oven, and sprinkle with granulated sugar.

Allow cookies to cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack to cool the rest of the way. Store in an air-tight container. Serve and enjoy, while hot or after cookies have cooled!

How to Make Gluten Free Peanut Butter Cookies

There are a couple of different ways that you can make this peanut butter cookie recipe and adapt it to make gluten-free cookies. One of the best substitutes for regular all-purpose flour is another gluten-free all-purpose flour. To make it this way, it would simply be a one-to-one substitution. You may want to increase slightly the amount of peanut butter included, so that your cookies don’t turn out too dry.

Another great alternative for all-purpose flour is to use oatmeal instead. You can use rolled or quick oats. I have found that if you put quick oats into your blender, and pulse them for a few minutes, this will make them comparable to using flour. You could also try leaving some of the oats whole, this way you will have oatmeal peanut butter cookies!

Flour Substitutes in a Peanut Butter Cookie Recipe

A few additional ideas for you, if you are trying to come up with a flour substitute for your all-purpose flour, is to use, one of the following. These should all be close to a one-to-one substitute.  However, if your dough appears to be slightly dry, you may want to withhold some flour, or add additional moisture.

1.Oatmeal

There are many things you can enjoy with peanut butter cookies! However, there are two main ideas that come to mind right away.

1. Chocolate Chips – The first idea is chocolate chips. It is very hard to go wrong when chocolate and peanut butter are combined. Try including chocolate chips in your cookies, melting some and topping your cookies with a drizzle, or even dipping your cooled cookies into melted chocolate and allowing the chocolate to set. You won’t be sorry you tried these two together!

2. Milk – Enjoying a glass of milk with your freshly made peanut butter cookies is another delight that you can’t go wrong with. There is nothing like a midnight snack of peanut butter cookies and a glass of milk… or the two paired together at any time of day!

How to Store and Freeze Peanut Butter Cookies

Peanut butter cookies are best when stored in an air-tight container. You can use a Tupperware container or a sealable plastic bag. As long as it securely seals, your cookies will last for a while without going bad.

I also learned that you could place a slice or two of bread in the bottom of your container. This will help to keep your cookies from going stale as quickly.

To freeze your peanut butter cookies, simply place them into an airtight plastic bag or container, something that will securely seal and place them into the freezer. The cookies will be best when fresh, but may be stored in your freezer for up to three months before they go bad.
