Room Temperature

To store it at room temperature, simply place the coffee cake in an airtight container.


To store coffee cake in the freezer, first wrap it in plastic wrap then wrap it in aluminum foil and place it inside a zipped freezer bag. Be sure to date and label the contents of the package before freezing it.

How Long is Coffee Loaf Cake Good For?

The length of time coffee loaf cake is good for depends on how it’s stored. A fresh coffee cake is best when it’s fresh. But leftovers can be stored in an airtight container on the countertop for up to 3 days.

Frozen coffee cake is good for up to 2 months when wrapped properly and stored in an airtight container.

Following is the easy recipe for the delicious coffee loaf cake. We outlined the step-by-step instructions for making it.


Following is the suggested equipment to make this recipe.

parchment paper

large mixing bowl

loaf tin

electric mixer



3 tbsp all-purpose flour

3 tbsp brown sugar

¼ tsp ground cinnamon

2 tbsp butter

3 tbsp chopped pecans or walnuts


3 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

2 ½ tsp baking powder

1 tsp ground cinnamon

½ tsp ground ginger

½ tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

½ cup melted butter

2 eggs

1 cup buttermilk


Grease a large loaf pan and set aside.

Prepare the topping by mixing together these dry ingredients. In a small bowl stir together flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Cut in butter until coarse crumbs begin to form. Stir in nuts. Set cinnamon-sugar mixture aside.

In a separate bowl, prepare the cake batter by stirring together dry ingredients including, flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, salt, and baking soda in a large bowl.

Add melted butter or room temperature butter and mix on low speed.

Add wet ingredients of egg and buttermilk to flour mixture. Stir just until moistened and batter is still lumpy.

Add half the batter to the loaf pan. Top with half of the crumb mixture.

Add the remaining batter and top with the remaining topping.

Bake at 400F degrees for 50 minutes baking time, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Serve warm and enjoy.

If you’d like a sweet touch to top off your coffee loaf cake, you can make a simple glaze using icing sugar and milk. To make some, mix ½ cup powdered sugar with a few drops of milk. Stir until well mixed. Apply the glaze to the top of the cake.

To try a richer flavor, add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the cake batter recipe. Mix well.

Instant coffee granules can be added to some water and then added to the cake batter to give the actual cake a coffee flavor.

In regard to the butter, our recipe calls for melted butter, but you can also use a little bit of room temperature butter and cream butter into the cake batter. We don’t recommend using unsalted butter for this recipe.
