Have you ever had a Chick-fil-A grilled chicken club sandwich? If not, you need to try it soon! This sandwich is one of the tastiest, most nutritious options available in fast food. But on here we’re not going to do fast food. Instead, we’ll show you how to make this juicy sandwich fresh, at home, on the grill. Which of course is a healthier option anyway.

What makes the Chick-fil-A grilled chicken club sandwich taste so good? It’s all in how it’s prepared and the seasoning. Their goal was to make a sandwich that tasted like it was fresh off the backyard grill. What better way to make it taste like it’s fresh off the grill than to do exactly that! Now, of course we are not privy to the secret process and ingredients in the restaurant version, but we’ve spent time studying their list of ingredients and what we do know about their process, and we believe we’ve perfected the best copycat recipe that tastes just like the real deal. And making it at home allows the less than healthy things like MSG to be omitted.

Shopping List

boneless skinless chicken breast
buns
lettuce
tomato
bacon
Colby Jack cheese
white vinegar
brown sugar
orange for zest garlic powder
granulated sugar
salt

Instructions:

Cook Bacon

If precooked bacon is not being used, prepare a foil lined cookie sheet, then place it in a 400F oven for 15 minutes, or until bacon has reached its desired doneness.

Mix Marinade

Before mixing the brine, place chicken breast between 2 pieces of Saran wrap and gently pound with rubber mallet to flatten. This will allow the chicken to have more surface area to absorb the marinade and will help it cook thoroughly, more quickly.

Marinade

½ cup white vinegar
¼ cup light brown sugar
1 tbsp salt
¼ cup sugar
2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp orange zest

Whisk together the above brine ingredients until well mixed; add chicken pieces. Soak chicken pieces in the marinade mixture for 30 minutes, moving them to the refrigerator to keep cool.

Grill Chicken

Remove chicken from brine and pat dry with a paper towel. Place on a hot grill at 400F (gas or charcoal work well). Watch the chicken as it cooks. When it starts to appear white around the edge, it is getting done and is ready to be flipped over so that the other side can cook. Cook until a meat thermometer inserted at the thickest part reads 165F.

Toast Buns

For the last few minutes, while the chicken is still on the grill, spread soft butter on both halves of the bun. Warm them on the grill face down. It doesn’t take long for them to brown, so be sure to watch them attentively.

Now that the chicken is grilled and the buns have been toasted, you’ll want to assemble the delicious sandwiches right away, so they can be served hot. On the toasted bun, add lettuce, thin slices of tomato, a slice of Colby Jack cheese and any desired condiments. We recommend Chick-fil-A sauce. Mayonnaise is also a good alternative solution.

Now that you know how to make the Chick-fil-A grilled chicken club sandwich using this copycat recipe, you can get your Chick-fil-A fix even on the Sabbath…at home of course.

And as always, enjoy!
