Ingredients to make Chocolate Chip Heart Shaped Cookie Bars:

There are several basic ingredients needed to make these cookies. Below is the list of all the ingredients you will need to gather before making these delicious cookies.

Butter. For your butter, salted butter typically works better, however, unsalted will work as well if you are trying to cut back on your sodium intake. I would recommend using your normal salted butter for this recipe.

Granulated sugar. To make these cookies you will want to use granulated sugar, this will work well to help sweeten your cookies.

Brown sugar. It is important to use a combination of sugar and brown sugar. For this recipe, you can choose to use either light brown sugar or darker brown sugar. Either one will work.

Eggs. Although any size of eggs can be used, I would recommend using medium or large eggs. For this recipe, you want to use the entire egg.

Baking soda. You will want to include baking soda for this recipe that will help your cookies rise.

Baking powder. Adding baking powder in addition to baking soda will allow your cookies to become a little puffier than normal.

Vanilla. Typically, I use vanilla extract for this recipe, however, any type of vanilla flavoring will work well.

Salt. For your salt, you can use regular table salt, or if you want sea salt can also be used. There’s no need to get fancy however, regular table salt will work just fine.

All-purpose flour. Blanched or unblanched flour will both work when making these cookies. You can also use flour that has been shifted if you wish, however it is not necessary for these cookies.

Cocoa powder. Cocoa powder will be added to half of your cookie batter to make the red velvet portion of the cookies. It is important to use a lighter cocoa powder, so you will want to avoid Dutch powder if possible.

Red food coloring. Red food coloring is an optional ingredient. However, adding red food coloring gives you that iconic Red Velvet appearance to half of your cookie dough. You can use any kind of red food coloring, for a lighter color use liquid, for a more prominent red color you can try using gel food coloring.

Chocolate chips. Chocolate chips in this case are to be melted in 30 second increments until they are completely melted. Then drizzle on top of you are finished and cooled cookies.
